tappet setting valve clearance.

Hope the inch was a joke, of course it`s mm since it`s a Swedish bike.
Guess the Harley`s has 0,10 inch valve clearence ;-)

!/6 th is the perfect way to go.............see the owners doc for a step by step guide .
 Hey Hotversiond, where in the yorkshire are you?

0.10mm al set them on sat,UPSHEGOES West yorks) live in wakfeild but spend time in the halifax area at my mums away from wife haha

Hi,

Why not set them in the conventional way, in my case the clearance is 0.13mm or in English 0.005". Just get your feeler gauge cut the end to not quite a point and this gives you more room to get it between the tappet pad, also bend the feeler gauge at about 45º, this also makes it easier.

Oh, and by the way I'm from Bingley W.Yorks, but moved south back in 1993.

Sparks.
It have been up before in this forum, the adjustment screws gets cupped and then the feeler gauge metod it than not a good way to measure the gap.

Jampe

Well if that's the case and you have cupping on the pads then it's pretty obvious it's time for new ones.

Funny ;-)
They are cupped after 30-40 h so that would be a little bit overkill to change them only for the "cupping" all the Husaberg owners i know do the 1/6 adjustment, so why make it more difficult than it has to be?

Jampe

That's strange, I've just put in a 3015 Hot cam and checked the condition of mine, no cupping and it's coming up to 200 hours.
But those 200 Hours are on Kipplewhite softer valve springs, and the cam I've been using, the flanks are no where near as aggressive as the standard cam.

Quite right.
Have double springs on one 501 engine and original conical springs on the other 501 and there is a lot of difference in the noise from the valves, the bike with double springs are really quiet.

Going to change to to double springs in mine 400 engines too.

So i suppose my angry camshaft combined with the hard conical springs makes the noise and cupping.

Thats interesting jampe at around 200 hrs 08 cam stock conical springs my "cupping" measured less than 1/2 a thou 8O what looks like "bad" cupping can be quite negligable compared to the inacuracy of the setting method.

FWIW I set the gap with a feeler guage and check with a dial indicator, I found the 1/6 turns method will get me anywhere between 0.09 and 0.15mm depending on how things nip up and move or don't move when I tighten the locknut. it doesn't matter though, 0.09 to 0.15 works fine

Hi guys

Do any of you can tell me how much power I'm loosing by adjusting mine to 0,14 mm.

I like to be in the safe side, but don't know how much I'm loosing.

going from 0.1 to 0.15 will roughly reduce the max lift by 0.055mm and the duration by 0.6 degrees 8O 8O 8O

if you want to continue with this madness Zaga perhaps consider a geared electric supercharger to regain the lost mulepowers

http://www.electricsupercharger.com/

No way!! I've gotta get one of these for the lawnmower if I've got my calculations right my flymo should be seeing at least 19bhp now !!

wish id never asked now ha,also notice on the superchager demo the rotors are going the wrong way
