i have just done an engine which has tappet locknuts with nearly 1mm of lateral slop!
can i ask any of you checking tappets in the near future fo do this check for me and undo the locknut a 1/4-of-a-turn and see what lateral movement you can get.
i had an engine last week that was blown up because the locknuts had come off both inlets. it's happened to me, it's happened to froggy and i dare say a few others daen't admit it because initially it would seem to be a numpty's mistake!
so keep an eye out lads please and tell me what you know.
i have also been sent rockers where the tappet screws fall straight through the hole so what's the story on that?
some say they have always been 'X' but i have my doubts.
