Tank swap - Enduro to MX

I am swapping an enduro tank (FE501 -95) for a motocross tank (FC501-98) for a supermoto set-up. My main concern is that to make the tank fit, I have to remove the forward air filter. I think that I have to remove the filter and block off the frame openings, just leaving the filter under the tank. This worries me because I have now lost 50% of my combustion air and I fear I will lose power. Also judging by how dirty the forward air filter became relative to the "twinkie" under the tank, that more air was being supplied by the front filter.
How are the motocross bikes set up? Do they just have the one filter under the tank? If anyone has made this swap I'd like to here from them.

Starting in model year 2000, the "twinkie" on top of the frame back bone, between the tank halves, under the seat, is the only one left for all Berg models through 2005.

Hi, BergRyder...
My '98 fc has only the twinkie on top of the frame. If you remove the front filter and close of the frame and are still running the OEM Dellorto PHM40ZS, you may have to rejet to correct the mixture. I am currently running following set-up :
pilot jet : 34
Main jet : 172
neede jet : 270D2
Needle : K51, clip either in 2nd or 3rd position
Start jet : 45
Mixture screw : approx. 2 turns out
Idle screw : 5-5 1/2 turns out, idle sets up at 1650-1725 warm.
Starts 3-5 kicks cold, 1-2 warm or hot.

Thanks Guys,
Also there is a hose that runs from the intake manifold to the enduro gas tank to drive the little gas pump. I'm assuming that I can just put a rubber plug over the connector, and put a hose clamp on it to keep it on and it should be okay, what do you think?
