Tank Screws

A simple question - I hope.

What have people done when, after repeated removal, the agressive 6m screws that hold the top of the side covers to the fuel tank start to chew out the plastic.

Is the answer to turn to Tarzan Grip or is there maybe something more sophisticated like a thread insert?

Any feedback appreciated.

I always leave the shrouds attached when removing the tank, just remove the 2 bolts that attach the shrouds to the radiator and it comes off with the tank.

Thanks guys

next size screws and leaving the shrouds on are just too practical.

the bike is a 550e 2005 model. do you know who in Aus might supply the larger screw.

cheers

Try your local hardware, 14 gauge or perhaps larger, and grind the point off, just in case.

And like the others said, no need to remove them for normal maintenance, in which case you could also try something like Loctite 518 Master Gasket as a semi permanent fix. This will also fix a fuel leak if the screws penetrate.
