taillight wire routing

I am installing head and tail lights on a 09 450 that didn't come with them. Do I drill a hole through the subframe for the wires, and on which side, or do the wires go through that black plug in the center of the subframe. Mine does not have any holes in it but I do see 2 rectangular spots in the top that may be where they are supossed to come through. It will have to be a pretty big hole to get the connector through and I don't want to weaken the subframe.

Is the connector that would be on the OEM handlebar switch available without buying the switch?

Thanks

I have a 2010 FE450, so it might be a little different. The rear had two holes for the wires, barely visible on the right where the sub-frame support bracket attaches to the sub-frame:

On the far right of this image without the sub-frame support you can barely see the holes. (It gets cropped off when I embed the photo, so here is a link):

Here is the taillight assembly with my rear blinkers mounted. Notice the wires route through the fins on the assembly. The connectors are tucked underneath the ECU.

I may be mistaken but according to the 09 parts manual the USA FEs don't have the light harness to plug your lights into.
