I was getting the whirr sound when pressing the starter button. So I've just fitted the 'Starter repair kit' from Taffmeisters. My Mrs wanted to know what to get me for valentines day, well it beats a card!
I ended up using both shims to get the torque high enough. All in all, took me around 3 hours to do the job (including tea breaks, and just staring at the gubbins in the engine)!
First time out, and she fired up from a cold engine in about 2 seconds. Sweet. Started all day, with no problems. I was thinking about the R6 starter motor, but I'm not sure I need it now.
