Gentlemen of the UHE I need your help. I need any info you have on the Husaberg OEM cast Aluminium swing arm. Does anyone know how much it weighs? Or how thick the castings is? Or have any good pictures of one? Or any examples of failures inc details?

Many thanks.

Sir,

I don't have any of the particulars that you request, as far as weight and thickness goes but, I do have a bit of info.

I believe the arms are cast by Renthal in England.

The only failures I know of were traced back to a bad batch of material, and therefore was not a design fault. And "they" were able to trace which arms were bad and replaced all those within a certain date range. Some bikes were still on the showroom floor.

As far as weight, from a purely subjective point of view........ I once held a final drive chain in one hand and the swing arm in the other, the difference was very hard to tell.

Hope this helps,

I heard they were a product of Ireland...

That is quite possible. I just remember that my 01 was a couple of months late because of a big fire at the Renthal plant, that delayed production of the swing arms.

Thanks chaps - I'll have to get hold of one I suppose. Sidecar swing arms are about 6 inches longer so I never keep hold of the Husaberg ones. However I am trying an air shock and as I am going to have to make an arm for it I thought I might make a "Husaberg style" arm. Obviously I am going to fabricate it and I just wanted to get an idea of gauge of material etc. I will do a few calcs too and run the simulations in CAD but an empirical start is always good.

Ken - Did you get my last email? I didn't get any response from you so maybe it is playing up liek it used to? It was about the rough machined oil cooler.

Hey Ben... Yeah send the rough one if you don't mind. That will give me an chance to get "creative" with it... ;)
