Swing Arm Shock seperating procedure

Ok Boys,
Just spending Sunday morning doing some more set up work on the 550, I'm taking out the swingarm to check / grease bearings etc...I've pulled the hex head bolt out of the bottom mount of the shock \ swing arm area and there's no doubt a pin that needs to come out in order to seperate the shock and swingarm.

I just wanted to confirm if there's any specific way to get it out.ie must come out on one side or the other...obviously because it's inside the side the swingarm I can't get a great look at it...thought I'd ask before I started applying gentle persuasion

Thanks

There is no pin you need to remove other than the Hex bolt. The shock is a tight fit and is hard to pull out so what I do is get a wood dowel and go up under the swingarm where there is a hole and punch the shock up and out with a hammer and the dowel. That is after of course I remove the top bolt also. To re-install do the same. Get it lined up and tap it down in with a rubber malet. I also grease the ends before reinstall. It goes in a little easier also

Thanks Pollo,
In the meantime I went to the auto parts place and picked a little LED Torch (flashlight)...it's amazing what you learn when you can see properly...a stiff yank and out it came...when I took the plastic caps off the swingarm the machined surface where the Hex bolt located looked like the end of a sleeve...happy days, job done, time for a beer.

Thanks for your help

FWIW i put bike on stand then undo bottom bolt first remove bolt then stand on sarm near rear wheel to push the sarm down away from the shock then undo top bolt last

to reinstall shock if difficult put an ally block in where the shock sits, insert drift through the sarm from LHS and tap the ally block with the drift to move the steel plug into the rhs of sarm then shock fits in easyer

must be plenty of ways to do it. thank @#$%$^ we don't have to remove the exhaust seat airbox etc

Thanks Bushie,
Turns out it was a good call to pull it down... wasn't well greased. I think I'll replace the swingram bearings also....on re assembly a good cost of anti seize where the pivot axle goes thru the motor will stop it from binding.

I'd say another month or 2 and it would really have been a mission to get it out...this is the exact reason I'm gutting the bike before I set out and go riding. I can't figure how anyone can be so friggin lazy when it comes to basic maintenance

Cheers
