I had a similar problem with my 98. I ended up laying it over and spraying penetrating oil all over the area of the shaft- both ends, all seams/joints, anywhere it could seep in. I kept up with this for a couple days, then used a big hammer. It finally came out. There are also some posts about using heat, but be careful.

When I reassembled it I used all new parts and lots of boat grease (water resistant marine grade stuff). The next time I had the motor out, the shaft came right out.

SWING-ARM BOLT

Hi, Doug.....
Had same problem with my '98 on the first o/haul I did. Much WD-40 and silicon spray later, along with a bit of encouragement from a lightly-wielded 2 pound maul, it slid out the right side as described by the manual. Inspection showed the bolt had nearly seized in the cases. I burnished the bolt with fine steel wool and crocus cloth, then used quite a bit of grease and anti-seize on reinstallation. Removing the pivot bolt regularly will help prevent same thing from happening "next time".
If memory serves me, some of the other guys have had same problem, with various methods being used to reach the same results. They might check in with their methods over the next few hours (or days!!)

I went through the same thing when I pulled my engine. It took a lot of WD 40 and other oils sprayed where the shaft goes through the engine case. When you can get the bolt to turn then use the nut on the left side and tap it out while unscrewing the nut on the left side. You might want to take all the tension off of first use a floor jack or something like it.It will come out it just takes its sweet loving time doing it.The other engine mount bolts gave me more trouble.Clean them up good and lay the grease to them before you use them again.Hope this helps.
