Swing arm bearing checking & replacement

After a day out at the local mx track the other day - noticed the tell tale clunk of a dodgy bearing when I pulled the back wheel over from the top. I've only just done the wheel bearings so it's probably not them...
It's not a big clunk but there nevertheless. Can't really see where the movement is coming from but can see a very small amount of movement in the swing arm bearing area.

FE 501 2002 - guess the bearings have not been doen before. Before I strip it all down, whats the best way to check it is the swing arm bearings and not something else, and assuming it is - any great tips on how to go about the replacement job...have looked at an old thread here which talks about heating the swing arm & putting the new bearings in the fridge before pressing in.

Reckon I'll have a go myself with limited tools - seems like a bit#h of a job.

Take down upper screw of shock and you will see if you have any movements on swing arm.

If there is, take down wheel, and swing arm axle, and you will see the bushings and bearings.
You don't need to remove shock from swing arm.

I didn't need to heat nothing before for taking old out and putting new in, just preesing it.

When you buy new parts take care on whole on bushing, OEM bushing have hole for grease, I buy one from All balls and they didn't have, but you can drill it.
Don't know if the hole it's important, but I drill it so they are like OEM.

So - looks like I'm going for it.

Took both nuts off spindle & finally managed to knock it out & remove the swing arm (at one point thought it would never come out but kept smashing it from boths sides alternatively with a decent drift plus the nuts on obviously to protect the threads). Had to take the brake pedal off - then plunger dropped out - not sure if thats normal but will deal with that on reassembly.

So any tips....what about the comment above re grease hole drilling or otherwise??

Will I be needing to do anything to the parts that are in the engine casing or should I just replace the swing arm items.??

Anything else worth doing whilst I have the swing arm off?

Surely grease is grease ...or is there special stuff for swing arms - seen some comments re this somewhere.

Some people like marine grease, but there is not enough movement in swingarms to emulsify anything I reckon.

I use wheel bearing grease. Pack as much as possible in there, then there is no space for any crap. Most greases these days are multi purpose, so pretty much anything should be OK, as long as its rated as high pressure for bearings.
