Suspension setup

Hello all again!

I think I get around an engine quite decently but suspension....damn, I don't understand how this thingies work....

So here's my problem, after servicing the forks I'm now trying to set it up according to my riding stile and wishes so after hours of tinkering this is what I have:

1. Forks
Rebound: 13 clicks back from full right
Compression: 15 clicks from full right
Preload: 1.5 turns back from full right
Static sag: 26 mm
Dinamic (rider) sag: 67 mm

The video clip you guys recently posted says to set up rebound and compression clickers as above, I'm gonna try that just to see how it feels.
Various other materials say that static sag should be in between 20-35mm and that dinamic sag should be around 70 mm. I measured the above sag's without my full gear on so I kinda think that I'm in the "ball park" and should be ok.

If you see something unusual on my forks setup please let me know. I'm kinda worried that the springs are quite preloaded...only 1.5 turns from full preload.....

2. Shock absorber
Rebound: 25 clicks from full right
Compression (slow): 15 clicks from full right
Compression (fast): 2 turns from full right
Preload: 8 mm (8 mm in from where the spring has no preload)
Static sag: 40 mm
Dinamic sag: 109 mm

Obviously, the back is not right.

Static should be around 25 mm and dinamic should be between 90 and 105 mm. If I increase preload to 12 mm (manual says that max preload is 10mm) I get a static sag around 47 mm and dinamic sag around 103 mm.

What to do? Please help because this makes me a little mad....

Thanks and cheers!

what is it doing that you don't like ?

Well...nothing yet. I'm trying to set it up "by the book" but it seems I can't get static and dinamic sag right at the back.

As I'm not sure how it works I don't know what to do. Should I get a different spring for the back or should I set it up closest to what I can get and go riding?

i reckon get it close and go have fun, from there when you get a feel for it have a fiddle with the rear spring preload and test ride it, if you can't get it working nice consider a new spring.

also the front forks may have a stupid amount of preload on the springs ie the adjuster may start at 6mm, need to check it. 6mm should be a maximum not a minimum.

as long as your not the kind of person to do sex "by the book" you will probably enjoy the process

The PDS rear suspensions seem to be run with 110-115mm rider sag. Static sag for rear doesn't see too bad at around 40mm. Remember rider sag should be done fully geared ready to ride.

the rear is soft and the front is hard. get the rider sag right at 100mm even if it does preload the spring more. then take two clicks off the low speed compression to compensate.

if your bike is pre 2006 you want maximum HSCD - just go all th way in with the 17mm nut.

how much travel are you using on the front?

Almost all of it.

then you're just out of balance. when you ride and stand up. deliberately bounce the bike at say 10KPH. you'll find that the front and back don't bounce together. the sure sign of good suspension is when you do this and both ends are in unison.
