suspension invites me to sit down?

Hallo!

Awhile ago a real pro rider tried my bike... and one of his comments afterwards was that "the bike invited him to sit down".... we didn´t have the time to clear what he meant...

does the expression make any sense to you... in that case what does it mean and what should I do about it?

He weights about 20 kg more than me.. could that be part of the feeling he got?

Yours

if the bars are too near the rider it is like you are holding your knees - very dangerous for th rider. i often felt this so the best thing is to move the bars forwards and upwards. this gives the rider a better and safer feeling of being in control.

Maybe he was feeling the high footpegs also along with the suspension. When you stand up it's not as comfortable because it puts you too high. This is why I cut em and welded back 1/2 inch lower. Very comfortable. I got pics. Notice the spring rise up higher as opposed to stock.

Thanks for your ideas!

The man who tried out my bike has been working with research and development at Husqvarna, Husaberg and nowadays at KTM ... so we can for a fact know that he knows the bike...

I´m quite sure that he meant that the suspension and shock invited him to sit down... I think he knows about the bars and footpegs...

The thing is that I have never ridden a bike that is professionaly set up for me personaly... so I don´t know if I got a good or bad set up... I just ride and like it...

Getting the ergonomics right is a major priority for me, followed by suspension. To that end I have fitted high bars, high seats and lowered rearset pegs to both my 501 and 650. My objective is to stand comfortably and to be able to transition from sitting to standing easily. I'm 6' 3", or 1.90 m tall with a stiff elbow and worn out knees ( a reconstruction is due soon!)

Getting it right makes riding so much easier and therefore more enjoyable. It also means that an old fart like me can ride all day after the young ones have worn themselves out.

sounds OK? being invited to sit down sounds far nicer than being thrown rudely off the bike and out the door with a slap in the face. a pogo sticking stock 07 or 08 berg does that if pushed a little because the forks blow through the stroke and the shock hardly moves, a bad match of front/rear charachteristics.

a real pro rider tried my bike on the weekend. he wanted lower bars to make it easier to sit down further forward and make tipping the bike into ruts more controlable. so i guess my bike did not invite him to sit down and he didn't like it.

he was right its a lot nicer in tighter corners with lower bars. the bike can handle the lower bar setup now (more weight on the front) because the forks have fancy bits in them and they can handle a bit of weight in corner entries wthout cracking up, I still like the tall bars for faster terrain.

he loved the forks ........... and the TTX shock.

As steve says if its right for you then its more fun and you can ride longer, faster and more controlled. finding out whats right for you takes a while. what works for you may not be what works for the heavy pro guy.
