PS Forgot to ask - Not particularly a problem, but is it normal for a bike with SM wheels to feel as if it wants to "drop" into corners compared to dirt wheels? It is a bit unnerving at first.

The smaller front wheel must steepen the rake angle & the front tyre is wider but I've got no idea what effect either of these should have. Perhaps I have got something not quite right. The steering head bearing seems OK.

Super Moto Wheels

I've just put super moto rubber on my 95 FE501.
I am doing it cheaply just so that I can try it out, as the local Kart track has just opened its doors to Super Moto. I have no interest in riding the bike on the street, even though I have license plates, basically because the clutch drags and I need to wear motocross boots to kick it over.
I visited the local bike breakers with the front axle in hand.
I managed to find a 17" front wheel off of a 1988 Kawasaki Eliminator 500 (it looks pretty cool - 3 spoke design). (I think that the front wheel off of a Kawasaki EX500 would also fit, but it is 16" diameter which is small and would limit tire choice and may be a bit too fast turning / unstable.) The wheel bolts on with no problem except that the brake caliper bracket needed grinding to clear the brake rotor. Cost of wheel $50 including rotor, $20 for used Dunlop Sportmax 17 x 120. For the rear I put on a new 18 x 130 Dunlop Elite?on the stock rear wheel, cost $50 plus mounting. I hope to go to the Kart track (Amago) this weekend, hopefully this (cheap) setup works okay.
I have n't used the bike much in the last two or three years ( I've been riding my 2001 KX250 ), it seems like Malcom Smith Motorsports, where I used to buy parts, no longer carry Husaberg parts. Where can I buy parts?

The rake angle won't be changed by much at all providing you have put a 17"er on the rear too! I assume you had something like 21"/19" front/rear before so attitude change will be minimal.

The difference you're noticing comes more from the results of a slight reduction of ground trail, gyroscopic precession, new tyre profile that's made to help the bike turn etc. etc.

It is quite normal behaviour, so you don't need to worry about it - just enjoy getting used to it.

Cheers,
Simon

BergRyder,

Try Dan Blum at Motoxotica for parts. He is great! His banner is at the top of our web page.

Super Moto Tires

Can anyone tell me what tire pressures to run supermoto tires (actually street bike tires - Dunlop Elites) for super moto riding. The track is mostly asphalt. The front tire is tubeless, the rear has a tube.
Where is MotoExotica located?

Motoxotica is in Vacaville, California, just outside of Sacramento.
