Well, as we continue to get ready for the AMA season opener in St. Louis, we had our final warm-up race at Round 1 of the Superbikers2 series at WIR in Kaukauna, WI on May 6th. Robert Loire and I made the trip to represent the Loire Racing Aero P.A. Husaberg Team, while Mike Bergman stayed home to let the knee he tweaked at Stateline heal up for St. Louis.
Robert and I qualified our Husaberg FS650’s 1st and 2nd in the 15 rider Open SM class. In the first race, Robert pulled his usual holeshot and checked out from the field. I on the other hand had my all-too-often poor start and tangled with another rider in the first turn, coming out 8th on the start. I was able to work up to 4th place by the midpoint of the race, and actually caught the battle for 2nd and 3rd on the last lap but was not able to make a pass.
In the second final, Robert ran a carbon copy of his first race, while I was able make a much cleaner start and work into 2nd by the end of the 2nd lap. From there Robert continued to stretch his lead about a second a lap while I was able to maintain a comfortable lead over the continuing battle for 3rd and 4th.
In the Open Money final which is a new class for the series this year, they pitted the top riders from the Open SM, 450 SM, and 250 SM classes in a sort of “dash-for-cashâ€Â
