And you thought dirttrack was in trouble:

After what seemed to be one of the fastest growing motorsports start ups in recent history according to industry experts, the Super Moto Championsip series only has six dates scheduled for 2005. Two are in Wisconson?? And we thought 18 events was slim?

Wonder what happend to the Dallas and the other dates from last season?

The 2005 AMA Supermoto Championship is as follows:

DATE: LOCATION:

May 14 Orange County Fairgrounds, Costa Mesa, Calif

June 4 Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisc.
July 30 USA International Raceway. Shawano, Wisc.

August 20-21 Copper Mountain Ski Resort, Copper Mountain, Colo.

September 24 Music City Motorplex, Nashville, Tenn.

October 1 Downtown Reno, Reno, Nev.

That burns my buns. Sounds like another case of the AMA (not unlike FIM) killing off a series or class that doesn't suit the Japanese mfgs well. First the AMA open class MX, then the US ISDE qualifier series (The AMA only allows two events per year!!!), then MXGP open class, WEC E3 (world enduro open class goes away in 2006), I hear rumors of dropping the SM unlimited class, and now dropping the SM series down to 6 races. Sounds like Honda and/or Yamaha went whinning to AMA that KTM was selling too many 450 / 525's and was cutting into their market, and they didn't want to spend race dollars on that sport to get them back. Maybe they can re-institute SM racing next year with a bigger series and a silly rule that all bikes must be 450cc and must have a linkage rear suspension to make sure tha KTM and Husaberg can't race!!
