Hi all,
I am a very happy new owner of 570 (MY '10), even though I've ridden by bike for only 3h :D .

In March i am planning to go for a Raid in Libia of 1400 km (Erg Murzuq,Erg Uan Casa, Akakus, Erg Awbari) and i need some advice on how to prepare the bike (thinks that need absolutely to be done and known and what not to do)
For instance:
-Air Filters (How many do you think I will need)
- Sparks,

- fuel filters (ie...i've read about the Profill filters..)

-do you think i need to learn how to get down the tank, just to unload dirty fuel, ie with water inside...or do i have to learn how to clean the fuel pump, in case of blockage? Spare pump may be a smart alternative?
-electrical issues (spare fuses or battery going down quickly.....with an external bactery am i able to start the bike from an external bactery?)

Sorry for the stupid questions but I don't know very well this wonderful bike and i fear that EFI or the missing kick start could represet a problem)

In the mean time let me take this opportunity to WISH ALL A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND AN HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ITALY!

Ciao and thanks in advance!

Hi Pongo,

This year i was in Tunisia (Tissot Trans Tunisia 2010) for a raid of 2.600 km (desert) with a BMW x-challence. This was my first raid and i learnt a lot.
The BMW was almost perfect, but was to heavy ( 185 kg. with full tanks).
I only changed the airfilter halfway. the rest was not necessary.
Next year i will do the same raid, but with a new husa 570.
I started already with the preparation of the bike.
Things already done:
akrapovic carbon silencer
frame protection
Handlebar riser
Map Switch
Bleeder valve set
Neopren fork cover
Skid plate
Elektrical connection for GPS-roadbook

Things to do:
Safari fuel tank
Handguards
Steering Damper
Neopren PDS Protector
Fan
Carbon Heatshield
Cooler Protection
Front Sprocket 14 theets
Bib mouse front + rear with Michelin Desert tires

Spare parts for the bike:

oil ( 4 lit.)
oilfilter (2)
airfilter (1)
sparkplug (1)
Ty-raps

I will change oil + filter every 1.000 km, but check daily the oil level.

If more questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Regards

Hi Husa-Belg,
thx for the useful answer. I would add a prefilter (tank filter) and fuel pump filter from this company
www.profill-australia.com ....they have a combo deal on those and they have really cheap delivery prices around the world.
I've contacted them and they said that'll re-open the store in the next few days...

let's keep in touch

Ciao
Pongo
