Stuck in the timing chain marsh

Hi,

I am no chain expert so many questions occur when I look around for information. Neither have I got any response from the companies this far.

It seems that the timing chain is an ISO No 06B chain. Since my best friend is order, the fist question is if it’s possible to use another chain than an ISO No 06B?

IWIS http://www.iwis.com/en/
I assume the original chain is an industrial standard chain of poor quality. A quick look at the IWIS home page and there is a chain called G67. I know that SAAB Automobile used IWIS before but after a while the quality went down and they got problem instantly. By experience, I know it’s easier to get information if you ask in German. Can anyone do this? They have probably far better options if you ask. They do timing chains so the question is if they have a “true” timing chain, which can replace the 06B timing chain used.

Renold http://www.renold.com/
The Renold chain number I have found in the forum is 110038. The chain I have found with this number is called Synergy and is a standard transmission chain as well. Can someone who uses this chain confirm that it’s a Synergy chain? As usual there are no information about their timing chains online.

Regina http://www.regina.it/
The Regina chain number given in the forum is C121CHS/001. I have found a C121CH in the online information. This is a chrome treated chain. There are other types as well but the Chroma should be best regarding the wear issue. Is the C121CHS/001 a timing chain or is it similar to the C121CH?

Tsubaki http://tsubakimoto.com
Today SAAB Automotive uses Tsubaki timing chains and they are very satisfied with them. The chain used in the forum is RF06B. This is a standard chain. They also do RF06E-U - Special Simplex Chain, which is designed for high performance engines. They are represented in NL and UK and USA as well.

The chains above are all similar. They are ISO No 06B so they don’t differ much. The riveted pin width differs slightly but otherwise, they are identical if you don’t count a few 0.01 mm here and there. If the old Husaberg chains used are thicker it should not be a 06B chain. With the information from the SAAB people and the brochures, chrome increases the wear performance. The chrome quality is very important. Timing chains also handle the high chain speed much better than a standard industrial transmission chain. I would guess that if you choose a high quality chrome treated chain from the brands above there should be less or no problems compared with the today fitted IWIS. Another option could be a D.I.D chain, which is fitted in the –05 if the information I have is correct. All chains above have better performance than their competitors if you should believe them.

I have asked three Husaberg dealers in Sweden and they have IWIS only. I saw that Regina is used in the –01 model. Have anyone have had any problem with the timing chain in the –01 engine? Can anyone confirm or put some additional/correct information regarding this issue above? It would be nice if someone close to respective company or someone who represent the companies could ask for their best chain option. It’s always easier since you don’t ask for more than a few links.
