Anyone have any sugestions on sprocket sizing for the street ? Currently running a 16x40 . Needing to replace my rear sprocket so I thought I'd ask the people here .

I dont know how accurate my trailtech is but my bike pinned reads 126mph. I also dont need it to do more than 100.

As it is geared now 1st = useless
2nd=wheelie but runs out quick
3rd= best gear on the bike , wheelie @ any time
4th= decent ,good speed will pull it up on power wheelie some
5th= plenty o-power left
6th= dont really need

These are just my opinion ,

Feedback appreciated

My preference, especially on a bike as powerful as the 650, is to run gearing on the tall side. Short gearing on a bike with lots of torque doesn't make much sense, as all you do is shift more, and shorten the time between gear changes. That's the opposite of what riding a big bore is all about.

Judging from the descriptions you give, I'd say you are geared just about right. If the normal speeds you ride the bike put it right in the sweet spots of 3rd, 4th, and 5th, I'd say you are good to go.

Forget about 1st and 6th, and concentrate on the gears you spend the most time in. Run the gearing that gets you in the sweet spot there, with the least amount of shifting.

Thanks, I was thinking the bike had enough to run a 17 in front .Then that would bring everything inline . again, imo

Will a 17T fit without rubbing the swingarm? I don't know much about the SM Husabergs, but it seems like that would be a tight fit.

15-38.
Worked for me!

I will try that .

Thanks

You may want to reconsider. 15/38 and 16/40 are nearly identical ratios. 2.50 vs 2.53. It would feel very similar, if you could even tell a difference.

looking @ the bike & doing some surfin the 17 will fit & thats what Im gonna try first mostly due to cost . I'll post how it works out .

I can't imagine a 17 would fit. I just took my 16 off and there wasn't any room for a bigger c/s sprocket. Who even makes one?

Where did you get the blue hoses?

yeah it really dosent appear it would fit , lots of ktms' use them they say they ocassionally hit a crossbrace if @ full extension ?? Oh well .Guess I will do the 15x38 like Goran

So you are going to buy two new sprockets, one front and one rear, just to replicate the same final gearing you already have?

Once again, 15/38 and 16/40 are basically the SAME ratio.

no I have a 15 & a 38 . I know they are close but I guess I will change them .

I've got a 17 T Husqvarna front sprocket on my '98, but don't know about the post 2001 models.

The Husky sprocket is offset to one side while the Husaberg one is centred. The offset moves the sproket out a couple of mm and helps keep the chain off the engine case. Even so, the chain still licks the case a tiny bit.

You have to modify the swingarm chain slider to fit it.

Yes ... basically. Until you try.

My fs650 had 16: 38, and now run 16: 40, the fc650 uses 16:38 (open version)or 15:40. My next change will be 15:40, I ride on the street windy roads don`t need high top speed, but would like to come out of corners higher in the rev range.
