Hey Guys,

Just picked myself up some 17" motard rims/tyres and front radial mount caliper etc and I am wondering about gearing for these wheels. I had a quick search around but couldnt find what i was after.

I wont be racing, just commuting with a little recreational riding every now and then, as dirt is where the fun is for me! I have no clue as to what gearing to put on the bike with the 17" wheels affecting the rollout etc. I also want to make it pretty easy to change over everything as I dirt ride most weekends

I've tested with 13/38
On top speed 6th gear is not good. It does not keep the speed.
Try 13/40 so you can use all the gears.

got the wheels on,

couple things to sort. I ended up with 13/40 gearing so Its a quicker change over to the dirt set up (13/52)

Have just pulled the wheels off for powdercoating, cherry black rims, metalic blue hubs and either white or black spokes, havent decided yet!

wheels powder coated! came out great. Ended up painting the hubs, spokes and nipples myself, wont be in a rush to paint spokes again 8O . though I shouldnt have to as I used exhaust paint (750c!) and baked em in my oven for an hour so its extra hard.

Street gearing

Very cool !!!!!! I do not know how the gearing goes on the new bikes....but if I put 13/38 on my 470, it would go 140 m.p.h., if not for the wind resistance of my body......With 14/50 it will run 90 m.p.h. flat out......with the same gearing my brothers 07 450 will run about 60 m.p.h.....I cannot explain it....

Hey, thought I'd chip in here..

KTM race team said 14/48 on my FS570, This is good but a bit too crazy for the road. I went to 14/45 and its pretty good. with 14/48 I felt like I wasn't getting enough forward drive and it would just wheely in 1st to 4th. I'm going to move to 14/46 when I can find a sproket.
