Hi All.

So my bike got stolen (2009 FE450) in august and the insurance have finally come back with a settlement of £2950 - my £380 excess.

With the bikes being quite scarce im not sure if this is fair price? id normally seen a good example going for £3500-3800 but with none for sale I cant justify.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Also keep your eyes out for the bike.

Well, it wouldn’t be that cheap over here.

any prices Europe-wide on mobile.de?

What numbers do you get if you take original MSRP and do devaluation of 10-20-30% per year?

That sucks. In Ireland, if you make a claim then you lose your no claims bonus and get completely shafted for insurance for the next 5 years (€2500/year and similar prices).

Value of bike €4k
5 years of getting raped by insurance €10k

So it's almost never worth it to claim. I don't know if it works like that in the UK, but just a thought!

Im not sure. They said they use the glasses guide which is like an established / trusted source for values. they also examine your pictures for condition. It was in great nick to be honest. Id insured it for 4K (they ask you for a value when you insure - feck knows why as it has no bearing)

Ill have a look in Germany for some. good shout.

Yes you lose your no claims but my insurance was only £250 a year on fire and theft as I only ride 2k miles a year for fun. I only had 2 years NCD anyway as im a new rider. you can pay to protect your no claims too but to be honest you have to declare the claim anyway which stacks your insurance so I dont see the point.

Ive checked worldwide and can only finder older (sub 2006) bikes for sale.

This was actually the least valuable thing taken. They took my RZR 1000 buggy and all my tools. bout 30K in total. Cops didnt even bother showing up to dust for prints. Just gave me a crime number. This countries fecked.

I had 3 bike stolen in the UK and I have been living here for 6 years... none in italy in 18 years ...all of them around liverpool

one was a brand new CRF 450 It got taken from the paddock during a race ...basicly the day after a friend spotted a guy on istingram posting pictures pulling wheelie with a brand new CRF, got it reported to the police and they done **** all, 2 monts later, after finding out where he lives they knock at his door and all he said was ''that was my friend bike'' ...and I was told they won't continue the investigation

all I learned was
forget about motorcycle chain lock, they do nothing, got some used crane heavy duty chain that does the job

GPS tracker I got a chinese one for 70 and I spend about 5 every 3 months to run it, with 3 months independent battery (it's really good)

if you don't claim the money you will still remain with your 2 years NCB

try to contact another company to get a quote for an insurace with no NCB and the theft
and you can see how much they will charge you after it might go up by 200/300 or a lot more

all the best

The thing is though that when you get any insurance again, they ask you if you've had a claim in the last 5 (or however many) years. And if you say yes, they'll give you a good rogering. A friend of mine's insurance went from €410 to €2800. And on the fifth year it had come down to €1750. Maybe that's just Ireland. It's a total scam here. The first time I had bike insurance I got quoted at €588, then I told them I had three speeding points as well from my car and it went down to €510! Pulling numbers out of their arses.

I know what you saying and that's happening even in the uk...but you lose NCB or you have to tell them only if you actually put the claim in. It's stupid.

I had a ktm 125 road reg and was insured (but not on theft) I couldn't claim any money so the next year I was fine with my other bike.

If your insurance will go up by a lot sometimes it's not worth to claim any money.

I got around the points, I had 9 on my italian license driving in the UK and then I change it for a British one (all 9 points gone ) I didn't declare them.

The first year I insured my bike was more then 1k and the year after was down to 250 (now 120)

Yes the police do nothing. People will start taking things into their own hands with the use of camera phones, social media and gps tracking.

Id be interested if you post a link to that tracker you bought.

Insurance wise ill have to see but its a necessary evil. Ill see how it effects my premium once I get a new bike and renew the insurance. Doubt ill be back on a Berg though... none for sale. :(

Strangely my 6 points (2x SP30) positively effected my premium last year when it came down £70. I think they're that common it hardly effects it. or the premium is on some kind of random generator.

That's what I got, had it for 1-2 years and not a single problem, people hide them either in air box, inside the seat, or make it look like it's part of the bike as ecu

100% worth the money

uhm..
points should in theory affect the insurance but when I exchange my license I had nothing on it, so I just didn't told them

at the end of day I think as long as you don't make a claim they always try to compete with each other to get more costumer.
