Steering head frustration

Since the first day I have owned this new 06 FS it has had a click in the steering head area. Sounds and feels like a loose bearing setup but I can not get rid of it. If you push the bike into a 4inch high curb it will 'click' going up on initial impact and 'click' when it hits the ground coming back down.

I have tightened the bearings down until you know they are way too tight and conduct the same test - it makes no change, it still does it.

It is not the floating caliper as this is without brakes at any point.

I thought I had it in a loose handlebar mount but that wasn't it either.

I am suspecting the fork springs slapping inside the tubes, but that seems unlikely..

Anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

Mark

nb: I have looked pretty hard but can't find the torque spec for the steering head shaft cap bolt in the owners manual - its referred to the 'M22 collar screw'

if it was me doing it, the click would be from my shoulders and elbows :D

Schultzy - nope - the bike only has 25 hrs of street riding on it

Ned 37 - as Dylan said "it ain't dark yet but its getting there..." the day I need to load up on ibuprofen before a ride, is fast approaching :)

My 12wk riding season is officially weathered out on the count of winter so I use the next 9 months to gut the front end and see what I find and chase a few other issues as well

Cheers

What you need to do is loosen the pinch bollts and raise the fork tubes and tighten the fork caps. My guess is the the caps are not secure causing a little bit of play inside the forks. Once secure slde the forks back in and tighten the pinch bolts.
