Stay away from model years?

From memory the 07,06, and maybe some 05 bergs since the new (pre 09) motor 2001 are ok, but 01 to 04 were to stay away from. Can't remember why. Does anyone recall any major problems with the 04 650FE?? Enough time has gone by to know for sure by now? I thought the big 650 did not have main bearing problems, but they did reduce the motor size for some reason...what was it?

some 04 's had counter balancer issues , weep hole problems , i got over 13000 klm out of my
main bearings [ fe 650 04 ] .

so what happened after the 13,000km did you change the bearings or did it let go and make a mess?

basically 02-03 are the years you want to stay away from for the newer motors, unless you REALLY like to tinker. albiet, those years can be made to be just as reliable as the other years with some cash and elbow grease. '04 started a good run, they gradually and in small steps made mroe improvements each year, some years the improvments were more substantian than others. That being said an 04 is just as releibale as ANY other comparable bike.

right now I´m not very convinced of the the ´04 models.

I still have mine, ridden it the last season and I was forced to dismantle the engine 2 times.
The engine had 130 hours on the clock.

Finally the crank was broken in half. The big end pin was cracked besides the conrod.
The engine was still running but with very alarming noises. :(

I still do not know if it´s a problem for only the 450 engines, but to be honest, it really pissed me.
7 years of Husaberg and I never had problems like this.
2002 and 2003 were really reliable bikes, apart from the SEM ignition. But from a mechanical point of view.
´05,´06 and later should be allright.

The same thing happened to my 450 -04 with 80 hours on the clock. But i´ve got everything i needed to rebuild the engine from Husaberg for free and after that it ran just fine.

no it did'nt , at around 160 hours i thought i pushed my luck far enough . a friend of mine who
used to work for berg AUS rebuilt it for me . he was shocked at the remarkable 'as new ' condition of the mains and the con rod . i still have the con rod to prove it !

the crazy thing is after the rebuild it let go in a big way and nearly maimed me .

Hello all, its been awhile. I am more than pleased with my 2004 FE550. It has just over 9,000 miles and 335+hours and I have only replaced the cam chain :D :D :D The 2004 Fe650 I had and sold to my buddy has 6500 miles and is all original. The 550 will defineately get its 10,000th mile this summer.
