I have a 2001 fx-650. I am removing stator to have it rewound but dont know how to remove stator from sidecover. I removed bolts figured it would come out without too much effort. Any advice appreciated.

Hi Wooley,

Once you have removed the three screws that secure the stator in the case, just tap the case on the corner of a wooden bench rotating the case as you do so, with the open part of the cover facing away from you. The shock should loosen it, some times there is a bit of corrosion where the stator seats on the flange.

Regards

Sparks.

Thanks Sparks. That thing was really stuck on there, I ended up tapping on cover with wooden handle of a hammer. I hope to be sending this stator your way later today.

If your lamination ID is corroded, before you put it back in, take some fine emery cloth and clean up the lamination ID's. Mine was a pain too, after I cleaned it up, it was a breeze.
