My 03 fe400e has has a re-wound stator on it done by someone in Ellesmere Port area, it's been done less than a year and it's on its way out :( I'd like to find out where it was done to see if it can be repaired or anything. These things cost a fortune :(
Cheers

a bloke named I think Kris650 was doing them on here, not sure where he was from?

regards

Taffy

Hi
Yes it's kris. I've been trying to reach him without any luck.
Does anyone knows were he is or if something has happened to him ?
Cheers

I have tried to contact Kris to no avail recently, my stator has died!

I have just bought the Dellorto 'spruce up' kit from Taffy too, thinking I had gone wrong somewhere, but have tested the stator and it had given out in the time I'd changed the jets.....bloody thing!

I wanted to get it set up by Taffy but it's not going anywhere until it has a new stator lol Has to happen at xmas too!

I have found these guys MOTORCYCLE GENERATOR/STATOR REWIND SERVICE for sale at Elliotts Motorcycles Cricklade, nr Swindon, Wiltshire

Not sure how good there rewinds are but have quoted approx. £90-£100.

Like you say, expensive for a new one. Perhaps worth it though??

You might want to give Midwest Husaberg a call 01225 791179, they are based in Swindon too so may have had dealings with them.

Carl.

Mid-west send their enquiries to me.

best you keep the old one Duane in case things don't work out. you need to re-appraise what you have. just coz the bike isn't worth a lot doesn't mean that the quality and cost of parts it needs are going to come down. that isn't going to happen.

I don't think the Husaberg related costs are a lot which makes me ask: can you afford the bike? there are times in my life when any cost was too much!

they are never cheap though are they THAT is for sure!

I've never poo-poo'd Kris, you'll see no bad comments here by me to him or about him but I do know that 2 of his first fist-full of jobs went wrong. I'm not sure he found the effort worthwhile.

it takes a whole day to repair each stator and then you stand by it for a year. Steve makes money out of them but if I sell one on ebay I make 10 quid. 10 phuqin quid!

people keep asking for pay-pal and its 'protection' but do people know how much they and ebay (they are the same by the way) take on each deal?

well it's about 25 quid!

that's why at Taffmeisters we try and convert customers to card payment or if in the UK and parts are away we'll even use BACS. but people think we are manipulating them into a weaker position.

not a bit of it. we just don't want to see ebay take anymore money - end of.

regards

Taffy

Yeah the expense isn't an issue so to speak, just a bit of a pain it's happened now, I wanted all my money for beer and festivities. lol :)

I can see where your coming from with ebay and paypal, not sure why people are so worried about paying without it. You have a good reputation on this site so it's never been something I've ever worried about.

I'm keeping the old one as you say Taffy, will be in touch to sort out a new/re-wind.

Cheers and have a good Christmas all!

Do it yourself. It is super easy! Buy some of the correct guage wire, wind it on (the correct way), epoxy it and go!

Here are some of the resources I used before rewinding my stators. I rewound my XR650R and a couple other bikes after reading these:

Rewinding the XR650R stator for more power
DIY Stator wrapping
Tech Tips - Stator.
Alternator Stator Failure and Repair
Tips on Stator Rewinding - Engineering and Technology - ThumperTalk
stator re-winding - ADVrider

Unfortunately I don't know specifically about the fe400's stator and trying to look it up didn't help much. These should help you at least decide if you want to try it.

Hi guys,

I don't get on here as much as I used to but still read the mail from time to time.

Just have to say I'm still here and have been for the last 35 years, have seen quite a few so called ignition repair specialists come and go over the years.

Any issues on ignition windings just drop me a line UK Motoplat - Bradford Ignitions - SEM ignition

Regards

Sparks

Seasons greetings all the best for 2015.

Thanks Sparks,

Just to update you guys, I managed to get my stator sorted and the bike's running again.

Must add, I haven't ridden the bike since I installed the new Dellorto 'spruce up kit' I bought from Taffy. Wow what a difference it has made!

Not sure if the stator is also helping but the bike races now, and I can kick start it cold or hot with no choke.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know and wish you all a happy new year! :)
