Stator problem FE650 (image heavy)

Hi guys,
I am new to the forum and I need a little direction/help.

I currently have a 2002 Husaberg FE650http://www.webboxmedia.co.uk/toys.jpg
A friend was riding my bike and it suddenly cut out after reading the docs etc it seems it was my SEM stator.

I tested the values
http://www.webboxmedia.co.uk/original_sem.jpg
and it seemed the red and black was at fault

The bike then sat for about a year

I bought a second hand working stator and tested the values (stator was of a 2001 Husaberg 470cc)
http://www.webboxmedia.co.uk/second_hand_stator.jpg

I installed the new stator and it does not produce a spark (not even a weak spark)
http://www.webboxmedia.co.uk/install_second_hand_stator.jpg

What am I doing wrong? Is the stator just not compatible with a 650? I understand the second hand stator does not give of the correct figures but surely I should get a weak spark?

What are my options and where should I go from here? I was under the impression that the second hand stator in my image was from electrexworld?
http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/st5410l-sem-direct-replacement-lighting-stator-9303-0.html

I thought I was grabbing a bargain for £80 now im more skint then a started and no working bike.
I wanted to have this running for the 28th Sep as I have my Mod2 bike test booked :(

Any help would be highly appreciated.

I contacted sparks about 2 weeks ago and I just don't have the money for mine to be rewound. £180 I think it was, I was hoping fleabay would come up with a cheap and cheerful fix as I didn't need to use the bike at the time so I had time to wait. Maybe I will sell the second hand stator If its no good too me, I will wait to see what the pro's say.

On a side note. The Electrex stators have been known to damage the ignition coils. I would not use one under any circumstance. If you think the stator rewind is expensive, try to find an ignition coil.....now thats expensive.

Hi

You can easely protect your CDI to use the electrex, with a simple diode.

If you what to know about it let me know.

Please post some more info on that zaga!

Hi Elsonoro

I'm not an expert in electronics, but this is very basic. The only thing that can burn your CDI is the voltage from the red (its what charges the primary coil), since the voltage of the green is very low.

The red wire voltage will varies with rpm (unfortunatly !) and in high rpm will go until 300 Vdc, so your goal will be, to make sure it doesn't go higher than that. I've talked with a guy from HPI and he says that their stator make that protection but to be shure you will add another protection. Don't know for sure but maybe those stators can burn the CDI since they have one extra coil to power the CDI (red wire), just don't know.

As I told you, I've talked with the guy from HPI and he told me the original stator has one 280V 3Watt diode to make that protection, also talked with OYK (that knows a lot more that me) and he told me that 250V would be enough, but I think he was refering to his bike(97), that is first generation SEM.

The principle is simple, the zener diode will work like one by-pass, that when the voltage go higher than the one you whant, that voltage will drain the the earth. It is a very cheap solution.

I've made a pdf with a simple explanation, so check it out.

Hi billiparker

You don't get spark from your second hand stator because its no good, you should get 3000 Ohm from red/black.

Sorry but you will have to find some money to solve that problem :(

I also know that problem

hello Billy

I give a trade in value for any second SEM stator you send in. that helps a bit...

also think that it sounds like the SEM.

Taffy
