Stator issues

Hi guys,
I have a bad stator in a 2000 Husaberg FE501,
I see on that on the main page under owner doc,
it says
Flywheel and stator from KTM LC4 motor.
This is the same ignition unit used on '03 and
earlier Husaberg motorcycles with exception of
lighting coil wattage output. (Sandskipper)

So can someone confirm for me that this is correct, I can put a KTM LC4 stator in my bike and it will fit.
Also what year of KTM do I need, I have seen one on EBAY which is a 1999 but it looks completely different,
see http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid ... Categories

any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Although the LC4 stator looks the same, the winding spec for the 1999 to 2003 is totally different. The SEM stator you require was only made for Husaberg for these years.
The resistance spec for your model is,
Black Red 3000 Ohms
Black Green 165 Ohms.
Where as the earlier type spec is,
Red Black 1750 Ohms
Black Green 23 Ohms.
Plus the ignition modules are totally different.

If you require any more info just get in touch.

Saprks.

I've had a lad get in contact who can't get the bike started. not one of yours. he's getting 3,200 ohms and the 165?

WTF?

anyway, no spark. on the coil he's letting the grey, white and orange dangle and all that is connected is the black to earth and the the green, black and red to the stator.

no spark whatsoever?

Hi Taff,

3200 Ohms is slightly high for a standard unit, but still falls within 10% of 3000 Ohms. Ask him to apply pressure to the four ignition coils on the stator with finger and thumb to see if the resistance stops stable, if it creeps up and down then it's a bad connection some where in side the stator.

The three wires that you mention that aren't connected that's OK, these don't need to be connected to obtain a spark.

Has he had his cdi/coil tested or tried a replacement?.

Regards

Sparks.

yes he reckons he has had 2. i guess that lightning might strike twice....

ya taf: you. i was curious because i currently have lent out my spare stator to a guy from washington. same scenerio. he tried here, got no love, then tried on tt, so i took pity. but, like usual, haven't heard anything for a few weeks.

well if it's the same BW I had for a customer from washington state he sent in a cam for exchange and didn't declare it duff so i went to the post office to pay £30/$50 just to find out what it was - the cam = value = nowt.

he foolishly called me for more stuff and hung up...

did I say BW? I meant FT!

Taffy
