I have just had installed to my fe400e 2003 a rewound stator from a company call Small Coil Rewinds in Geelong, Victoria, Australia. Bert from Small Coil Rewinds does a few a week. All reports are they are then very reliable. My started immediatley first time, every time over the weekend.

They retail for $350 ozzie dollars and you can call Bert on
03 5278 8454 with in Australia or 0011 61 3 5278 8454 from overseas.

If you need them shipped overseas write me at [email protected]

Hi Nugs,

Does the cost include all coils within the stator?

How is the stator sealed once complete?

What is the warranty period?

Thank you in advance.
Best Regards,
Dale

Ps
For those in the states:
$350 AUD is roughly ~ to $245.00 USD
A good price as $350.00 USD was the best I could come up with.

Thanks for that nugs. Interested in same q's as Dale plus a couple (if they are willing to answer them):

How many turns are on each magneto coil?
What wire diameter do they use in maggy coils? Is it same as OEM?
Do they set the windings as a solid block in lacquer as they wind them or wind them dry?
Will they put extra turns on the coils compared to OEM to assist in starting if requested?
Do they have a procedure for setting the timing once the timing mark in the stator potting is lost?

I think $350 for a rewind is a bargain (even compared to doing it yourself), particularly as the rewound coils have the potential to be a better product than OEM from reliability & starting point of view.

Its unlikely you would ever need to wind the 12V coils.

Response to Questions;

1. Only the ignition coils are rewound

2. It is sealed with an expoxy similar to OEM

3. Warranty is three months.

4. This is a repair service not an exchange.

5. The price includes GST of 10% which is deducted for exports.

6. Same size wire is normally used.

Hope this covers everything.

Feel free to give Bert a call as I just did.
