Stator Failure Survey

Hi bergsville,
I'm on a bit of a mission to find out if the problem I experienced this weekend is a common fault or not.
I had six different blokes in the forest telling me that my stator had packed up when my TX300 wouldn't start halfway through a trail ride event.

Is this a common fault?
All those in favour say Ayeeeee!

Supposedly not uncommon on the DRZ, for what it's worth :) Out of like 6-8 DRZs I've see around, I know about one failed stator. Common on the forums too.

Dave here , tried new replacement stators, sem done,do these things work ?
Can't get timing right. Please help any info appreciated.
Also looking for original , used,rewound.1998 fe 600e

Hi

Your bike is 98-FE600? correct ?

For me the best solution so far is a good rewind stator. The newer onesmight also work, to get the timing right with those, not so sure.

There are lots of posts about this issue here, about the timing and about the taking care of the stator.

For me the way to get the timing right is with a timing light and with the original stator.

But if you what I can try to explain here my thoughts about the timing.

Please tell me if the is really a 98

generally, if they stop your foot they are advanced, if they roll over TDC and 'half try' to start they are retarded.

if it is a 1998 it will have a plstic ignition cover in black. if it is a '99 it will have an alloy cover with a sight hole at 11 o clock.
