stator confusion

I know this subject has been beat to death but realy dont want to order a expencive part if i dont have to.

i was riding on friday for about twenty minutes all was great untill nothing. no spark. tryed a new plug nothing. pushed bike about a mile. untill geting a ride to camp. then i started to tear into the 600, pulled plug kicked no spark from plug wire. opened the stator cover there was a lot of rust sanded kind of clean nothing.

got home puled stator to check ohlms,
black to green is 166
black to red nothing at all meter didnt even flinch

i looked in the owners doc it gives all the values and lots of great info but maybe i am doing some thing wrong any help would be great

make sure red(+) black(-), should be around 3k ohms. double ck your connections, disconnect orange to kill switch. talk to Sparks.
 
to check the stator do i hve to have it installed and kick motor over to see ohms or can i have it off the bike.

No, ju don't have to kick your bike! You gotta measure coil resistance in stator..Resistance is a feature of continuity in stator's coil.Just disconnect orange wire to avoid situation that kill swith got short circuit to ground, disconnect black, red and green wires. Set your multimeter to proper range.As ned37 suggested, you expect resistance b/tween red and black around 3kiloohms.Set your multimeter to up to 10kohms (most of multimeters got that range).double check, then post it to UHE.Or- contact Sparks directly!

Hi Matt,

Like Kriss says make sure your meter is set on a range that will measure 3000 Ohms, but it sounds like a duffer.
If you require a rewound unit Dan at Motoxotica stocks my rewound stators.

SHES ALIVE. new stator and she fired on the first kick.
