I recently purchased a 2002 fe 501 not running, stator open cct. I ordered the only stator I could find in stock in Australia on ebay as I didn't want to wait for one from over seas given the current covid situation. I fitted the stator and had a spark so that was thrilling,
I cleaned the carb as the bike had been sitting for 10 years give or take, it was pretty bad, ethanol residue in everything, the float valve was seized I got it moving again and pulled everything apart and cleaned it well.
Some fresh oil and fuel and a new plug and she started to my delight! Idled ok but missing every so often a bit like my 620 used to but a little worse, I tried to run it through the gears but it won't rev out it coughs and back fireing and just runs terrible but seems happy idling or little throttle but that's all. It also kicks back bad if I use the choke so I started it by turning up the idle and richening the screw 2 1/2 turns thus worked, no kic back
I pulled the carb again and went over everything again, checked wiring, checked correct stator for 99-03
180 ohms and 1200 ohms were correct spec for this coil.
Tried full retarding the coil and multi positions to have no effect.
I now don't know if the ignition coil could be faulty or is this ebay stator is junk or if I have a carby issue?
