Starts off the button except when I stall on a hill ?

Can anyone point me in the right direction here. 03 FE400E starts best off the boot when cold but only need the choke on on for a like 20 seconds. Starts easily off the button when nice and warm if I turn it off, but when I stall the bugger on a hill and I need it most it rarely starts off the button however one good kick will usually get it going. It must be close but doesn't seem to improve with adjusting the mixture screw either in or out. Or is it just the darn dellorto. I have a couple of 39mm FCRs off 01 WRF or YZF250s and one off an 03 YZF450 but just haven't has the time to get one fitted. Out of these will one be closer in jetting over another ? Anyone like to buy one ?
Thanks again.

first thing i would do is pull the needle and needle jet to check for wear since when it stalls its generally on the needle. and these are high wear items on that carb. what happens if you would kick it thru a few times with open throttle to clear it out?

With my 501 when it had its Dellorto it was similar, If I stopped it, it'd start fine, if 'it' stopped for whatever reason it was a pain. I felt that part of this was the inability to get a consistent float level. I reckoned that the needle and seat were the culprit. I hot start conversion fixed it, or at least made it start after it stopped, and the FCR solved it. Oics in my gallery.

it stalls because it was rich for a moment. you'd like it leaner but that is very difficult to do. steve has it about right but i would also give myself the best spark i could. get an IXU24 nippon plug - they are ace-o-lux!

Do they have a removeable tip ? I tried the NGK Iridiium version but it is solid and I have never seen a deep reach plug cap to suit ! Is there such a thing ?
Cheers Dan
