Starting question - 2001 FX650

Great forum - hope i don't catch hell for a silly question but here goes.

We recently picked up a near mint 2001 Husaberg FX650e. This bike was al in boxes and the final result was a very-very well kept bike. There were alot of extra parts such as twin pipes, crankshafts, sleeves, - suspension etc. etc.

Well - the bike is back together as per the latest manual. We "bump" start it under compression with ease - runs very very well. kick starting is .......well........ we managed to get it going ONCE after bing started using kick starter. (cannot connect electric starter - missing parts)

My question is - IF we disable the kick-start decompression cable, we have GOOD starting compression just from the auto decompressor at the cam. Bike WILL start.

If we hook the cable decompressor to the kick-start, compression is lowered to 60 psi, as measures through several kicks.

Yes, valves are set properly, cable adjusted as per manual.

Actual question - when using the kick-start, after positioning piston just past TDC, do you prevent kick-start from fully retracting i.e. bring it back to top for a full kick but not so far as to engage the cable decompressor? or do you allow cable to engage decompressor?

If this is not clear please let me know and I will explain better.

If you are in fact re-engaging the cable decompressor (can hear a click) - maybe the adjustment for the cable is wrong?

Also - please note all other functions have been double checked - auto decompressor is working A1. in fact I have several different ones, boat type etc. right now I have put the original parts back in.

Not really a jetting issue either. when bike runs - it runs well.

It is only a compression issue - can't achieve proper starting compression if cable decompressor from kick-start is engaged.

Yes
Return the kick lever to the top and give it a full stroke from top to bottom (do not cheat it).

OK, If thats the case, I probably would have to lengthen the cable so as to raise compression. Left as is the exhaust valves are WAY too open for proper compression.

Maybe I am not following adjustment procedure clearly - should the kick-cable only move lever by 2mm when activated? or should there be 2mm of free play when able is taught?

someone can clarify?

I think it's the free play of decompressor lever, not the play of activated decompressor.
Here is how I done it and it works.
Put engine in TDC, and than just move the decompressor lever on cylinder head with your fingers to check the play of lever (don't touch the kick start), if it's needed adjust it to proper setting (2mm) with adjustment screw at the end of decompressor cable.

thanks for the input - we think the problem might actually be electrical at this point. We are able to start it from the kick-start using regular method
