hi guys sorry to go over the same old ground but i got a secondhand 650 fee on saturday and it s being an arse (old yorkshire saying )when its cold it will kick off ok but touch the button and the motor turns but doesnt attempt to fire but when its hot 2miles plus running it will start on the button can i expect better? its had a dealer trying to fix this problem and they put a new coil /cdi on and they reckoned to check all sorts before i bought it any ideas please and for anyone thinking of getting one all i can say is wow go do it

I didn't mean to sound negative.
Who else makes a light 650 single that
you don't have to kick all the time?

You are a lucky man, you have one of the better ones. Most don't start on estart either hot or cold ;-)

I have an '03 650 and it never starts on estart, hot or cold. I just kick it, it's not a problem really.

Cheers,

Jerry

I had no problem starting miy 03 FE650 cold or hot once I got the jetting right.

Too big a pilot and you've got no hope of starting it cold (idle screw is too far in opening slide too much)! The way they were delivered with a 40 Pilot & DR 272 did nothing but foul plugs and lead to hard starting.

Getting the valve lash spot in is important as well.

cheers for the info everyone
i have down loaded the hard starting guide and have so far checked out the electrics they all test ok. i know its asking a lot for it too start on the button all the time but the dealer i bought it off used it as their shop bike for a year and it was them who said it always used to start on the button after cleaning the generator i kicked it off then after ticking over for a minute i stopped it and and it restarted on the button so maybe im getting nearer beats watching tv anytime
thanks again

Some have gone off about renaming the "e-starter" a "re-starter", probably when the design people found if didn't work too good. If you think of it as a "kick-booster" and use it with the kicker you won't be as disappointed.

Even with a bigger battery on the 600 it's marginal.

not to bad

My new berg will always start on the e starter when cold & when hot, but can be a little tricky when in between. I find if you never ever touch the throttle and just pull the choke out maybe a quarter or so and just give the starter a very short stab each time it will always seem to fire up. Never hold the starter on for more than a second at a time .
