Starting problems 570 2010: Camshaft

Looking to solve my starting problem on my 2010 FE 570, the only option left I think is a new camshaft (decompression).

Of course I checked the valves, wiring to starter motor and relay. Replaced the battery. But still the cranking sometimes stops in the compresssion stroke. Cold start is good but then the compression is probably low enough.

I found out that the original camshaft is 81736010033, replaced by 81736010133 and finally by 78736010033. Can somebody confirm this last one is the right one?

gezwind, if you're buying a later cam could you let us know what you find to be the differences please?

I have one of the new cam numbers, difference was that it is 2oz lighter than the older part numbers.

You say you have a new battery, make sure it is the old fashioned lead style - the new light weight batteries have very little if any reserve capacity so when worked hard they do not cut it. If the new style batteries are getting worked and voltage drops to a level below I think it is 9 volts you get too little voltage through the system to make it work properly.

Looks to me you have a good cam already, the bad ones have a KTM style part number that starts with a 7...... -- it is my understanding that the 8..... part number is the corrected good cam. KTM sold the 8.... to KTM 530 guys until the new KTM 500 cam just cam out a few months ago. Save your money on the cam, I bet your problem is something else.

I have contact with a 2010 570 owner how had the same problem. It was solved by replacing the cam. I tried a new old fashioned battery and now have a LiFePO4 (Super B 5200) one. Problem stayed with both.

I ordered the cam so we will see. I will check the differences (I hope it has some:eek:). Otherwise you can find a new cam on ebay soon.

If you have other suggestions to solve this problem please let me know, i am out of solutions.

I'm guessing that the changes are in the Auto decomp.

I'm told by Travis at TR that the factory changed the timing of the decomp by I think he said 10 degrees?

that only changes one ofn the cams and doesn't explain the other.

What measurements do you want me to perform with simple measuring deceives (micrometer and caliper)?

I doubt that there is a good accurate way to measure a 5d difference at the cam.

not sure how but at least I'm told that that is the difference.

the other change could be the decomp weight?
another change could be if there are any drilled holes in the lobes or not?

This happened back with cam #81736010133, this is the cam that got the 10 degree change to ease starting. This and future cam numbers have the new ADC location.

so the ....10133 is an improvement over the 10033 as you would expect and the cam has the 10d (5d at the cam) change in timning. Gezwind writes the numbers down as though the 787...... is the latest and last development but Torquemonster says that all 7................ parts are a step backwards.

Yesterday I changed the cam for a new one (81736010033->78736010033). Today the test ride. First I drove slowly through some woods to get it realy hot till the fan started and switched off. Started up really quick and strong. Tested for about 20x and even in gear its starts up really stong and easy. I am happy with the result and the €200 are well spend.

Made some pictures, the new one on the right. It looks like te decompression axl is a bit higher but the can also be wishful thinking. I could not measure anything useful.
