starter torque limiter mod and timing chain question

Hi. My 2005 fs 650e has been having problems starting with the e-start when the engine is cold. the stater just spins and when the engine is warm no problems starting. I removed and disasembled the torque limiter gear and I found 2 cup washers instead of one. should I remove one and install a 0.015" washer instead. I replaced the sprage bearing about 20hrs ago with no sucess. I belive my problem is this torque limiter gear but don't know what I should do.
any sugestions would be appreciated.

on a side note, I found that my timming chain has been rubing against the case where the water jacket is. it's as if the chain has streched and the tensioner has pushed it against the case. The timing chain is only 50hrs old should it stretch that much in such a small amount of time. I will be replacing the timming chain just wondering if I should be looking at anything else.

you probably have a pre 2004 and have the old yellow cam chain tensioner blade. fit a later one: I do a modified one ready to fit. this will stop the rubbing.

The chain I installed in the winter is the KTM P/N 82036013100 D.I.D chain. I think I might have overtightened the chain tentioner, thus making the chain stretch. My previos chain was the same P/N and I replaced it after 120hrs with no stretching noted. My bike is a 2005 and has the black chain sliders.

thanks for the reply's taffy and zaga, I will look into my two little problems a little further

the DID doesn't last like the IWIS but then they are 1/2 the price I'm told!

Have tried both cam chain no different in my opinion but the DiD is half the price. Just shim the torque gear up more and it might solve your hard starting but if you auto decomp is not working well it will stress you torque gear more and make it slip. Also try a different oil sometimes that can improve it as well. Good luck.
