2001 fx470e when I push the start button the relay makes a clicking noise but the starter does not spin.I bypass the starter relay and connect 12 volts to the starter and nothing happens the voltage drops from 12.5 to around 5 volts.I remove the stater and connect 12 volts and the starter spins fine. The battery is fully charged and I have a good ground anyone have any suggestions.

If you're using your bike battery for all your tests, maybe it's bad? Sometimes they say 12 Volts, but cannot deliver enough current.
In order for your bike to start on the button, every part of the system needs to be in tip top shape. Check out the Owner's Doc. It's got all the setup and upgrade information to get your bike starting on the button (assuming it already starts well with the kick starter?).

if you are connecting directly to the starter with the crocodile clips you have simply two problems to choose from.

starter or battery!

if you use a supa dupa battery from another bike then it's the battery i think?

did i get that wrong anyone?

I think the clue is in your post here, 12.9 fully charged 12.5 half charged 12 is flat and a volt drop to 5 knackered battery.

Yep, your battery has sulfated; time for a new one. It doesn't take much for these batteries to lose their way.
Do you keep your battery on a tender when it's stored? It's a very good habit to get into. Even storing the bike for a little while without it can result in a dead battery if your not putting energy back into the battery.

RE: Re: starter not turning engine over

battery tender shows 100% charged. Volt meter shows 12.60 volts, so I connected a car battery and the starter turns the engine over so I have a bad battery. What is the best battery that will fit the husaberg, the battery I have now is a Yuasa YTZ 7S...

RE: Re: starter not turning engine over

that is the best battery. the only thing better is an AGM battery. absorbent glass matting.

fwiw, my yuasa ytz7s lasted less than a year with frequent visits to the battery tender. i'm hoping i get better service from my western powersports generic version. the one i had in my 450 lasted 2+ years.

It takes 13.5 volts to fully charge a YTZ7S. Always keep your battery plugged into a high tech charger capable of charging to a full 13.5 volts when the bike is not in use. Use an Optmate III, IV or equivalent. An old style Battery tender won't cut it.
