Is it OK to run it un-oiled? I think this is the main source of oil in my carb boot :oops:

No.

If the oil is draining out of the filter, use another filter oil that doesn't. I just tried Mobil and it is crap. The older Motul is great, but superceded. Castrol is quite good too.

The carb boot oil is a common Husaberg phenomenon. It comes from the crankcase breather venting into the frame backbone and then dripping/accumulating at the carb boot juncture.

In between replacing a dirty air filter with a nice fresh one I always use a clean rag to clean up into the frame. After 'oiling' a clean air filter I use paper towel to dry out the excess & have never experienced oil in the carb boot.

You probably ride a Husaberg the way it was meant to be ridden. Very fast. Long periods of WOT help the motor ingest the oil. If you rode as slow as me you probably would have some accumulation. Both my 97 fx600 and 01 fx470 have it.
 
can someone direct me to another page with the pics of the k+n filter mod...that page seems to ALWAYS be broken to me, i could read it for the first time today, but still no pics...someone help a poor little boy :twisted:
 
(This has been discussed before, but I felt the solutions lacked polish). If you crash and get your bike upside down, hot oil will run through your crankcase vent hose, into the frame, and into the carb. Now, your bike will not start without cleaning everything out - not fun! Solution - remove the crankcase vent line from the underside of the frame, cut off a small section and make an appropriate plug, I used a 1/2" copper pipe end cap. Resecure with reliable hose clamps. This seals off the frame/intake area from dirt and air leaks. Install a small K&N air filter in the hose, secure with clamps, and tie off to the radiator hose with tie wraps. Dirt cannot get into your crankcase, which now vents through the filter to the atmosphere, although it may now drool some oil during your next big crash. BUT, you can pick up your bike and easily start it, since the carb is not filled with motor oil!. See the photos. You can source the filter through Summit Racing, part number 62-1000

Have you done this modification and do you have to oil the filter on the end of the breather hose from the crank case.

I did basically the same thing to my bike except I used the breather filter for a auto{don`to know what kind}.The filter is made by Purolator the part no. is B13131.I chose it because it is made of plastic and the filter is trapped inside so you don`to have to worry about loosing it.I have not oiled it and have had no problems. Hope this helps
 
If you go staright down it wont suck up water. The piston stroke is to short. Never had water in my crankcase ever and i've been through it all. Just though i'd add that. A lil late but better then nothing.

yamaha, or should i say the owners, have had serious problems with the WR and YZ in water. the breather pipe, which exits the head at roughly the same point as the berg, goes down the left downtube. if you stall a yam in water they will suck water up into the head as you kickstart.

dwight rudder, who was once here (hasawannabe) has a tremendous track record over 20 years in enduro and he like my dealer fed (feeds?) a breather over the engine and down over the chain. a piece of course sponge in the end and a split pin through the pipe to keep it there.

it's important that an engine can suck as well as blow otherwise you are just encouraging a pumping action past the rings. at high revs there is no way that piddly little air filter, splodged in oil from a previous fall, is going to pass enough air.

when i raced in the manx gp one year i got back with the whole bike covered in oil. the word heomorage isn't too strong. even the gaskets had burst outwards!!! turned out the breather pipe was touching the bottom of the catch bottle?!?!
