Hello Taffy, Im the rider you met at Tbec. Hows it going? I'm doing the enduro this Sunday again, should be good.
When I saw the words 'SR Offroad' in topics it made me feel sick. They completely destroyed my engine, started off with the main bearing, a common fault and fair enough, but in 'fixing' it they created more and more problems, major problems! Almost as if they were doing it on purpose to get extra money. At the time I was totally new to bergs so didn't know about SR's awful reputation until it was too late. I payed them around £1100 and after 3 times of being 'sorted out' then shitting its self I was tearing my hair out. The worse thing was they played along with it claiming to be astonished as to why it kept blowing up. They could of caused me a major accident as one time when this happened I was riding at about 60/70mph when it went and the rear locked up but luckily I was riding in a straight line so managed to keep the thing upright.
I took it to DCR in the end and to the tune of another £1000 they completely rebuilt the engine and its never missed a beat since and this was well over a year ago. Changed the oil & filter every 8hrs of road riding or after each enduro and its very reliable. Dcr told me that SR had completely butchered my engine, put parts in it from an older 400 model, used tyre levers to get the casing off which wrecked it etc. I even found the bolt at the engine mounts at the front of the frame loose hanging out with the sleeve missing. They even lied about putting a claim in because of a manufacturers fault which when I enquired with Dcr they hadn't heard of any claim!
It wasn't just normal customers they did over, apparently they were up to no good on the supermoto race scene as well, f*cking racers over. They also claimed they were an independent team as well which wasn't true. They've as good as gone bust I think. It all went sour with Husaberg so they went to Aprilia last year and raced them in the British Supermoto champs. I did read in Tbm a couple of issues ago that their premises were broken into and several bikes I think the aprilia race bikes were stolen aswell as gear. This was in Wirksworth. They stopped racing with Aprilia and were testing/working with the Synergy supermoto. God knows, but I like to shake the hand of the people who did over their premises, I finally felt like a bit of justice had been done
I've since met other riders both on forums dating a while back right up to recently at a bike meet that have been screwed by SR with their bergs too, I wonder just how many people have fallen victim to them. I did find Dcr's nickname for Mick Spencer amusing- 'The laughing assassin'
I'm no expert on technical stuff but I'll route all the paperwork out at some point and explain exactly what they did.
