RE: Re: spring generator

Also check out Race Tech's site they actually list an 02 FC 470 . Gets the bike weight a little closer . Also not sure about leverage and shock placement / angle on KTM . May make a difference ?

I feel it makes a huge difference. Not just the swingarm mounting point (which is completely different on the Husaberg) and the leverage, but total chassis geometry in general. I feel it is a mistake to try and carry over KTM spring recommendations to a Husaberg. I have one of both brands too.

Another caveat regarding the KTM springs is--at least on KTM talk, the prevailing wisdom (?) is to shoot for large static sag numbers (40-50mm), and race sag too (115mm). This requires a much heavier spring, and is the best reason why you shouldn't pay much attention to what the KTM guys run, since running that much sag on the Husaberg does not work, at least it does not for me.

JohnF3, I agree with you there. Hbg does have a diff ratio, but I think the '07 KTM is supposed to be getting closer. I tend to prefer softer springs front and rear with a bit more preload and less sag. I also feel that most americans tend to overspring and underdamp their bikes.

says i need .47s upfront for hare scrambles, 45s for enduro but 86 rear regardless.

as perfect as the front coding is i'm afraid the rear is miles from me.

we run around 100 race sag to their 115. so we need a heavier spring just to get the sag numbers right. that's the way i see it. but i still go by feel.

there is now way i could have come up 4 rears and two fronts without going by feel. i raced 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 with the std rear spring. this season i went through PDS 7, 8 and 4 as well as sitting here with a straight 95. i'm looking at the next progressive from the USA. 9.0-110.

john my sag numbers are nearer to 30 front and 35 rear.

regards

Taffy

I don't know about the recommended rates, but the stock rates for most of the KTM's I checked were not correct on the spring generator site.

John, there are a few things that will be updated on the MX-Tech site. Jeremy Wilkey has sent me a list of updates.
I may very well ask him to read this thread and comment.
