spongy brakes

I have an '05 fs650e supermoto with the new radial caliper which works very well----------but despite changing the fluid and bleeding the system I find the lever still quite spongy-even coming back to the bar although I must admit at that stage the front tyre is squealing and about to put me over the bars------now I guess most would ask what is my problem then but I wonder if others feel this setup is spongy and have any changed the master cylinder.

bleeding the system can be tricky. the accepted method never works for me. try taking off the caliper and using a method of your own doing, push the pistons all the way back. then tap on the caliper with a small hammer as you hold the hose exit at the highest position. next position the master cylinder such that the reservour is at the highest positionand tap on the mastercylinder. pull back and release the lever so it snaps. a lot of times there is trapped air right outside the reservour.

the answer is very simple. you adjust the lever outwards and away from the bars. you will get a slightly 'wooden' feel if you go too far. so try it and adjust to your taste.

You can also leave the system under pressure for about a day or so. Just put a ziptie around the brake lever or a weight added to the footlever. This way, should there be air left, it will be compressed and forced up to the pump/reservoir. Tried it myself several times and it worked.

Check the rotor with a dial indicator to be certain the rotor isn't warped/bent. Will push the pads apart leaving much travel in the lever during operation. Also bleed the brakes with a motion pro check valve. Enlist a friend to keep the reservoir full while you continually pump the brake lever. Takes a lot of fluid. You will keep pushing the air downward faster than it can rise and rid yourself of the offending bubbles.
