got my barrel back from langcourt and as usual the job was superb. i called the engineer for a report and he explained that husaberg run chrome rings in a nikasil bore which isn't usual. he said that apparently cast iron but i think he meant steel are the alternative.
the reason i have a massive lip is because the nikasil was worn and that the ripples at the top are because the rings have lost their strength!
i kept trying to get him to call me a "cheapskate" but he was far too polite!
thats about it. BTW i didn't know there was that much nikasil on the bore to feel that difference.
there is a langcourt in auburn texas (probably round the corner from JD) and we have one here. having been in contact with 'dave' over the last week once again i'm assured that i'm dealing with a man and a company of great integrity....
word has it that many berg barrels are useless and sure enough he's rejected one today. it was 100.15mm by 100.45mm. so i'm looking for the dimensions of the 101mm KTM piston.
have any of you the dimensions/can help me?
he said that ovality is quite a problem with the huseys. the very barrel that is oversize and oval even had two moon eyes in the back of the barrel. they were a shiny silver when the rest of the bore was grey. these were low points!
apparently the piston should be considered to be trying to shove the top front of the wall out and the same for the back bottom (hope i got that right!). he also said that "you can hone for all you like, you'd wear the hone out first and have to be an *****.....etc etc.
i look forward to tips on the piston. if there are any germans here that could write to woessner and ask for the specs?
regards
