Been around here for a little while now, put up a few pics of my bike from time to time in various threads including my new user thred, but wanted to have a more dedicated build thread for myself [emoji6]

So here it is.

01 fe650, bought a year or so back as a motard setup, didn't know what I was going to use it for really. I absolutely love it as a motard but having always been keen on trying the green lanes, I decided I'd put some twinduro Tyre on a get the best of both.

After a initial tart up. Replaced a few bits and got it running nice, I ended up using it pretty much all winter on the green lanes. Out mist Sundays in the rain and dirt. Was awesome! Seeing as it was doing 80% off road stuff I picked up a set of enduro wheels cheap, and set about using it like that.
Come the end of the winter, decided it was looking tired and wanted to get the frame re done, plus it was using alot of oil, so the time came to open it up and see what's what.

I won't go into tonnes of detail on the build, I'll just chuck up a few pics of it before, during and anything in between, but the spec currently is as follows

Engine has had:
Full strip and soda blast to clean
Full bearings for engine, and outer trans bearings. Mixture of NTN, *** and SKF. All c3 clearance spec expect mains which are ntn specials.
Machined casing (0.5mm from each main seat) to allow more clearance for the ntn roller bearings(crank shimmed to a perfect 0.8mn float)
New re-nikasiled liner - via taffy
New modified high comp piston - via taffy
Crank split, new bottom end bearing and little end bush - via taffy
Full gasket set obviously
New water pump impeller
Taffy's dual valve spring kit
New cam bearings.
New rocker shaft bushes
Taffy's easy start and jetting kit
New timing chain
Taffy's modified cctb
Taffy's upgrade clutch kit (thicker centre plates plus new clutch hub etc)
Taffy's starter repair kit and sledge mod
New stator
New plug
New plug Cap
New engine/oil breather hose

And probably more stuff I have forgotten.. [emoji23]

Bike itself has has a full powder coat, in non standard blue. But colour matched to my silicone hoses and the darker blue on my new decals. Also got the swing arm done in blue cos it's a bit different [emoji106]
New swing arm bearings
New wheel bearings,
Enduro wheels powder coated
New stainless spokes
New Michelin ac10 rear tyre to match front
Good used rear seat pan
New front fork guards
New fork seals
Alloy frame guard
New side plastic frame guards
Full rewire with my own custom loom (felt the stock wiring configuration was bad so use a 3 phase regulator now to take stator feed and convert to high current output to charge battery. And all bike systems run from the battery so less stress and land on the stator)
Relocated starter solenoid.
Mini rear plate holder and light
New chain and multi sprocket set ups
New decals from scrub designs (awesome range on their website)

As you can see I've bought most of my stuff through taffy. He has been invaluable with his knowledge and help. Plus he is only 50 mins down the road from me which is very helpful! [emoji23]

I can safely say the bike is running great now. I've just passed 10 hours of riding since the rebuild, and it's barely used a drop of oil which is brilliant.
Haven't been out on a proper green lane ride recently as work and family commitments, plus trying to organise my mates is hard work, so I've just this evening swapped it back to the motard wheels and half and half tyres so it's much better on the road!
I'm hoping later this week to crack on and install the beefy starter from taffy. Plus I've gotta get the tank off and Check the valves. Also need a new clip around the breather hose as have a bit of oil sweat from there due to a ill fitting jubilee.
But basically it running fantastic and I'm just trying to use it to and from work and in the evenings as much as possible so I just get to use it!

Plan is eventually to get another berg (400 probably) and use this one as a devoted Road bike with some new tyres.
It would also be great to get the suspension re-done and set up correctly at some poibt, but as it stands, I need to to spending money on it and just use the damn thing!

Hope you guys now appreciate some pics

any chance you could resize the first pic of the second post? it makes the page way too wide for me, which makes reading things difficult.

very nice looking bike though

Not sure how to via the Tapatalk app, I thought it would resize it itself to be honest. But I'll look into it.
Cheers anyway, it's a dream to ride!

Bike looks great!
I’ve just bought a 2003 650sm looking to turn to a fe. Did you change out the suspension?
I was hoping to just change the springs as I’m a bit short so lowering the bike would be great. Currently looking for research!
Thanks.
