Hi,

Does anyone know any speedometer model which follows the Euro directive?

mikst,

When you say "Euro directive" what are you meaning? By that do you mean cost according to the "Euro" or metric (km) vs english standard(MPH)? I am guessing that you are implying metric, right? If that is what you mean than the Trail Tech Panoram riding computers can be set to either km or MPH. Hope this helps...

Regards,

The equipment must be certified and approved within the European Union so the Swedish Motor-Vehicle Inspection Company become satisfied.

I haven't found out the details yet.
I would guess, at least, showing the speed constantly and possibility to read the speed when dark.

Mikst,

I would assume the OEM speedo would fullfill those requirements.

Do you not have one?

No I don't.
When I bought the bike it was already specified as an "Enduro bike", written in the certificate of fitness for motor-cycle, which gives that I don't need a speedometer or direction indicator. On the other hand I can only drive on the road if I shall compete or practice and I need a competition license to ride the bike. The possibility to insure the bike is limited as well.

So, I have started to think about if I would make the bike road legal or not. Hence, the question about possible speedometers. I need a small model since I have no free space behind the headlight mask.

I think the Trailtech would be the proper choice over the OEM. It is smaller, detachable, and backlit. The size of the numbers might be small, but you could check that on their webpage I imagine. I know the OEM numbers were large, and legal in the US. I would suggest checking the rules on that one too.

The speedometer needs to have backligt that is on constantly (at night of course ;)), the Trailtech has a 20 sec timer when pushing a button hasn't it? U could get lucky and get an oki with that but usually they are rather picky when it comes to registration of a vehicle for street use and correct equipment etc. U also need to indicators for high beam etc but that is less of an issue.

They usually sell OEM KTM/Husa speedos on Ebay for reasonable money, those will most definitely work.

I have a Koso digital speedo with constant backlight and integrated high beam/flasher indicators on my Vert but it came registered for street use from the factory so I can't really guarantee that it will work for U Mike.

I highly recommend you check out the trail tech website (www.trailtech.net) if you get the chance...they have a new unit out there, and it has different features than the Panoram (the unit everyone is familiar with). It's called the Lynx. I know the people at Trail Tech...and while their products are outstanding, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS REVOLUTIONARY!

So...check it out... The Lynx by Trail Tech ( I was going to buy one for my Cannondale, but it's gone, replaced by a FE450E (which has all these things).
