Spark Problem FS650 2001

Hi

I'm new in this forum, was reading it for a long time.
I both a used FS650 a few days ago, with one problem: she don't start.
I thought it might be a little problem, stator or ignition coil.

Today I tested the Stator: 3k ohm on red & black / 170ohm on green & black
When Kicking: ~30 Volt on red & black / ~3 Volt on green & black

I checked the wires... and just made a new wiring harness
still no spark plug.

As a friend of mine has a FS650 2002 I took his stator and ignition coil...
and still no spark... (his bike runs without any problem)

Do I need a new flywheel? any Ideas why having problems?

Wires I connected for the test:

green, red, black of stator to ignition coil.
black of the ignition coil to ground

Thanks for help

Fabrizio

Hi and Welcome

The flywheel loosing magnetic power can be a problem, in fact it will be a problem to all of us in the future. And I still don't know how to solve it, I've eared that there are companys the can can remagnetise them but just don't know where ????

You could try first to take your stator and CDI to your bikes friend and see if it works there.

pull the plug cap off Fabi and hold the lead near the head. say 5mm away and then kickstart. you may have a bad cap?

that stator reading is almost too good to be true! is it an original black SEM 'made in sweden' stator or is it one that you can see all the coils of wire on each post?

regards

Taffy

Hi Zaga,
remagnetization is not difficult, it just takes time to build the equipment to do it. Here's a very good description of making a remagnetization bench:

http://gasengine.farmcollector.com/Equipment/MAGNETS-and-Magnet-Chargers.aspx

Alternatively, someone like these guys in the UK may be prepared to do the job:

http://www.themagnetoguys.co.uk/Home.php

There are likely to be many others on the web too...

I'd love to make something to do the job, but it's the usual story.

Good luck.

Cheers and regards... Paul

Hi guys

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate that.

No, i didn't test my Stator on my buddy's bike, cause we don't life in the same town.
He just came by with his parts past sunday.
we will try it next sunday at his place.

Taffy, mine is the original SEM Stator, my buddy's seems to be a electrex.
As I have a garage with one of my buddy's and together we have around 20 bikes we have new plug caps in our garage.
I even tried to get a spark with the spark plug connected directly to the cable (several spark plugs).

For me, the strange thing is, that the parts of my buddy's bike didn't work.
His Husa is awake after 3 - 5 kicks.

I try to finde someone like themagnetoguys in switzerland.

as we use to say in switzerland for husaberg: "gschoss oder gschiss" = runs like hell or makes problem like hell

does any one know if I can use the rotor and stator of a KTM model or another bike?

Thanks, cheers, regards.

Fabrizio

KTM flywheels run the other way and therefore the magnets are the wrong side of TDC. someone here "says" that he fitted a KTM flywheel and the bike worked great. so I really can't say for sure.

Hi Paul, good to ear from you

You first pointed out to this problem, and It will be a problem I think. Also Dr.C reported that with his flywheel he could not get the power he needed for his engine.

I think I will just send a mail to those guys to see what they have to say about it.

I found a flywheel in Germany... hope the husa will start in a few weeks.
At the same time I will try to find someone who can remagnetise my old one.

My father told me, that years ago Bosch had the equipment to do this.
I will try my best.

Cheers

Hi

Received the answer to my mail, so here it is: :? :(

Hi

Thanks for your enquiry.

I am sorry to have to say that we cannot help with remagnetising these flywheels. The modern type of flywheel which uses several magnets around the periphery of the flywheel cannot be remagnetised using the normal two pole remagnetiser. A special pot magnetiser is needed which is very unique to the dimensions of the flywheel and relative positions of the magnets. They are not commercially available as far as I am aware so one would have to be made in house, Either way, it would not make commercial sense to buy or manufacture one. The remagnetising process takes just a few minutes so what could you sensibly charge for the job? You would have to do a huge number of flywheels in order to cover the cost of the equipment. And then the next flywheel would be for a different machine, different dimensions, different number of magnets......

On a more positive note, I've had a look at the website you mentioned and read your post. The voltages you are getting from your machine look pretty good to me. I would suggest that the flywheel is probably OK and the problem lies elsewhere.

Good luck and best regards

So...

Could be our happy day.

After 8 phonecalls this morning I found a company in switzerland who told me, that it shouldn't be a problem to remagnetise our flywheel.

I will send him a Photo of the flywheel in the afternoon, and if they do not change there opinion I will send my flywheel, as soon as I have the flywheelpuller.

Cheers

Good Fabrizio

Please keep us posted about this thing, its very interesting.
The puller you can buy it fast on ebay.
I think they will have lots of work.

I had called Steve and left a message as soon as the link was provided and he returned my call two days ago. He is 'sure' that the figures one of you here has supplied to him prove that the flywheels aren't losing any of their ability to work.

it's good that someone is going to prove the point though....

Fabrício

I'm not sure how sure Steve can be from this distance, but please continue your search, or give me the contact

My bike starts first time, even then I won't mind to improve my flywheel

Zaga - I both one last week on jcmotors.com...

Positive response: shouldn't be a problem at all.
I will send them my flywheel as soon as I have the puller - then I'll get the offer.

Cheers
