Spark Plug??

Anyone used one of these cr8eix plugs in there FE 2002 400/501/600 etc?

I have one and am wondering if putting it in will be a bad move i have never used one before.

There seems to be no difference between the NGK Iridium CR8EIX and the IU24 Denso Iridium.

I dont think the plug will fit, I think it is physically too small. All of the plug references for the 2001 and up seem to be wrong as far as I can tell. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Every time I try to buy an Iridium plug by application I get the wrong plug.
 
i think it's called the IXU24 and i think it's an excellent plug. don't normally splash on posh plugs but this one has put up with rich and lean, overheating and freezing.

over 2 seasons old.

Right Taffy, I run them in my 2000 and 2004 Bergs.

Remember this NGK plug chart?

The standard later model Berg plug is a NGK DCPR8E according to the owners manuals

D = 12MM THREAD
C = 5/8" HEX SIZE
P = PROJECTED INSULATOR
R = RESISTOR TYPE
8 = HEAT RATING
E = THREAD REACH 19mm

The following Denso chart lists the IXU24 having the same dimensions as the above NGK plug:

The following Denso chart has an exact match in the standard plug as a XU24, and a IXU24 as platinum equivalent.

So these charts seem to corollate.

As I was trying to say. All of the catalogs seem to show the base plug to be a CR8E for a Husabergs 96-03. This plug has a 10mm thread and will not work. If you cross that to Iridium you get CR8EIX.
What you end up with is a couple of exspensive spark plugs sitting on your bench that will be there until hell freezes over, if not longer :wink:

My recollection from an earlier plug thread is that either the NGK or Sparkplugs.com has some incorrect info on plugs for some of the 'bergs for both regular and Iridium plugs. Ends up as unneeded parts on the bench. :(
 
Hey Guys

Don't feel bad, I ordered a set of plugs via the internet from a Husaberg dealer for my 2000 FE400E and they too sent me the wrong plugs! I received the CR8E plugs also. I went to the NGK site and they had the right plugs listed so I bought a set of iridiums.

I also ordered a replacement battery for my bike and was sent the wrong sized battery, one that wouldn't even fit in the battery tray! (Way too small) And this was from a different Husaberg dealer from the first.

It seems as if there is some confusion as to what parts are for what bikes at the dealers? Maybe they are just spending too much time pushing KTM's?? Who knows....

I recently installed a Champion brand spark plug in my 501. It cost me under $2

I was at Autozone, and they claimed to have dirtbike plugs, brake pads, and other stuff. I looked in their catalogs, but couldn't find a listing for Husaberg, BUT I did see a listing for Honda.

My son's CRF uses a similar plug to my 501.

The Champion plug is the same thread, length, and heat range. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE is the exotic metal in the electrode. I decided to try one. I have noticed no difference in performance or starting. No pre detonation problems, although I do run 100 LL aviation gas, so the extra octane could be preventing a problem. I have removed the plug once or twice and inspected it for any internal hidden complications, but have seen no visible signs on the plug itself. I believe this is a viable low cost alternative to the overpriced oem plug.

I'll pull the plug after my next ride for another another inspection. If all looks well, then I will share the plug model wih you. I don't want to post it until I am absolutely sure it won't cause an engine problem.

There is nothing wrong with Champion spark plugs ,they have been in the game a long time .I remember when the reps used to come to the bike races ,read my plugs with their cool little viewers and give me a bunch of freebees to try .I have won a lot of races with champion equipped bikes.
 
I wasn't implying that there is a problem with Champion Spark plugs. I am being cautious since the catalog doesn't list Husabergs and I was extrapolating the data. Once I'm sure the plug isn't hurting anything, I will post the plug number. I'll check it this week, then I'll post my findings.

After rereading my post i see that the wording I used implied a certain tone that in fact was incorrect.Sorry,all I meant was that I am not surprised that you have had good success with these plugs, as I have had as well....nsman
