Spare parts between Husaberg and KTM

Hello every Berg'ers out there! :D

This will be my first post here and I will start by appologize if this post will be "yet another one of those...", but I've tried my luck using google and the forum search, and perhaps my searching skills isn't so good :(

But I recently became an owner to a FE450 -04. I actually got the bike for free because the previous owner got tired of it since it had been sitting in his garage for 4 years. The only downside is that it's not working properly (some trouble with water leaking in to the cylinder, but I'm unsure)
Anyhow, I started looking for spare parts and was surprised on how hard it was finding the parts I need.
Now I have found a few good dealers (but I'm still trying to cut down on price), but I was thinking on one thing that I have to ask/discuss.

Accordingly to me a KTM bike is [sadly] more recognized and widely known than a 'Berg, but they are "the same" company now a days. And what I have heard is that many parts are the same between KTM and Husaberg bikes.
Is there any list that specifies which parts that are exchangeable between brands? I mean, if a dealer list a plastic kit/gear-lever etc. to KTM but not for Husaberg, I want to be able to know that I can buy the one for KTM and still be able to fit it to my 'Berg bike.
Has this topic been up before perhaps?

I hope I can make myself clear, It's all very clear inside my head, but I feel I might have been a bit confusing writing it down :?
And oh yeah, english is not my mother tongue, so please excuse any bad grammar and spelling...

Best regards
Fredrik

Many of the cycle parts are identical to KTM but rather fewer of the engine and gearbox parts.

You really need a parts manual.

So you're saying that parts for swingarm, suspension etc. is often exchangeable?

I have a parts manual for my Husaberg, but how does that help me figuring out what KTM listed parts fits my bike?

Find the Husaberg part number and Google it. You may find the results identify the number as a KTM part.

As Greg said on the older bikes quite a few cycle parts fit but engine wise not as many as the newer bikes.

I haven't got the parts manual to hand but ifI remember right the were a couple of large o ring seals that stopped water entering the cylinder, think one was green, could be that just one of these has sprung a leak.

You'd have to split the engine but even that is quite easy on the 04 bikes as long as you have a little bit of mechanical knowledge and some common sense

Also on the home page in the menu box there is a 'owners doc' read this as a lot is relevant including spares

oh, cool! I'll give it a try.
I'll also check the owners doc!
And as for the mechanical part I have no problems, I have a lot of hours in the garage, with cars mostly though...

On the 70 degree bikes, if the part number starts with an 8, then it's a Husaberg only part. Everything else is a KTM part (most start with 7, except for common bolts, nuts, screws, etc). I don't know if it's the same with your generation bike or not.

I don't believe it is, since I couldn't find any part number starting with 7 when I took a quick look in the parts list...

You need to look harder

Example: front brake rotor. p/n: 77309060000
Tail light: 76514040000

Hardware pieces like bolts, nuts, o-rings, washers, etc usually start with a 0 or 5 and are sometimes shorter than the regular part numbers. Some KTM p/n's also start with a 5, which I think are older parts.

If the part number doesn't start with an 8, a KTM dealer should be able to get it. You can verify by looking up the part number on any of the many online KTM parts websites.
