SPAIN
Hi to everyone, I´m a new member from Spain, sorry about my english, I´ll try to do my best. I´m glad to know about this site. Here in Spain there is not to much information about Husaberg.
I have been riding enduro since 1995. My first "big" bike was a Montesa Enduro H6 360 from 1980. Then I had several KTM EXC 250 2strokes, a EXC 300 ( a very good one) with this one I was racing for my regional Enduro Championship for two years, wich I enjoied it a lot. Then I had to sell everything in 2001 because money problems, and in 2004 I found one of my "dream" motorbikes, Honda CR500, in a very good shape. I have been using it for enduro for 3 years now, and I´m very happy with it. I love the engine. But now I´m looking for something newer. In 2001 I tried a Husaberg 400 and loved it. It is very stable, very light. I´m 6,2 feet tall and found it very nice for tall people. But it is the only Husaberg that I ever tried. Here where I live there are no Husabergs at all, so I´m not able to speak to enyone about them or to try any new model. Here the people are saying that Husabergs are not reliable, but I don´t think so. I still thinking in buying one. But wich one. Between 550 or 650. About the 550 I have read a few spanish magazines, and I like it, but never about the 650, never. So I would like to know things about it, most of all, about the engine, hp, torque, type of riding (low, mid, high revs). If somebody could give me information about it or tell me any web site where I can read any test or any information, I will appreciate it. Also, if somebody who has had a cr500 and can give me any comparation, will be great.
Beacuse I love the CR500 engine, I think that the 650 will be a better choice for me, but I would like to know your opinion.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Saludos desde España.

Well I like my 650, my story is here

In my gallery here

is a dyno plot that mentions CR500s, the 650 makes more hp
Lots like the 550 and 450. Its what you like, and the terrain you ride. For me the occasional race is for fun, at 54 I don't win them any more, of course I hardly ever did anyway, but its nice to dream. and every time I ride it I have fun, I love the 650

The older you get, the faster you were.

BUXO

I had raced CR500 for 5 or 6 years, got into the 4t mode and bought a 426 wr. I hated that bike, bought an fe 501 later in the year, and felt right at home. You'll find the chassis better and of course the suspension.

BUXO, Welcome to the UHE site, there`s a good set of lads on here that have a good welth of knowledge about Husaberg's and good reading to be had in the Owners Doc.

What part of Spain are you in, I am in Javea 100 Km North of Alicante.

Sparks.

Come on in to the 21st century, BUXO. I had an 87 CR500 and hated riding it because I had to get it STARTED first! (But it was fast and powerful. Handling?, well I was too tired to care at that point.) Then I got my first Husaberg, 2000 FE400, and I joined the rest of the world in modern times. Now the 550 or 650 might suit your riding style/areas better but I find the 400 more than adequate for my purpose here in So. Calif. It will all depend on your specific needs, but first ditch that charming boat anchor. JD

I have ridden CR500's and hated them too. Heavy, hard to start, do not turn, suspension? if you can call it that. Get a 550 or maybe a 650 naw get the 550 and sell that porker of a two stroke now.

I rode a Kawasaki KX-500 for three years and then bought my FE-550. It was love at first sight. The 550 is your best choice in my opinion because it has great horsepower and revs quickly like a two stroke. I find I can ride it faster because it is always hooked up and it takes far less energy. :D

hi all
since i previously owned a 94 cr500 for a number of years then a yz490 before that and a rz500 before that & now have a 01 fe650,i can probably give you an honest opinion of the 2 bikes.
the main difference is the power.
controllable power of the big bore 4 stroke vs semi controllable power of the big bore 2 stroke.
it felt like i was doing quicker times on the 500, but by the stopwatch i was actually slower.
the 500 has the wow factor of the big bore 2 stroke, power that hits hard, hard to ride smoothly on the traction limit.
i tried different pipes and port work on the 500 to make it more tractable power, but in the end ,i was flogging a dead horse.
the power curve of the 500 does upset the handling of the bike.
handling ....better on berg.
suspension ....better on berg, although you can spend money on that to get the 500 to work pretty good.
i know if you put david knight or valentino rossi on a cr500 and me on my 650 berg ,they will still "wrap rings around me",but i would be left further behind if i was riding the 500.

being 6,2 tall you'll have to raise the bars about 50mm as the bergs are a little cramped when standing up.
make sure you get a late model one with not many engine hours on it,as the 4 strokes will
cost you twice as much to rebuild as 2 strokes.
would i ever consider going back to 2 strokes "no way" i'm converted.
if i had" 9 lives" ,8 lives are already gone, from trying to hang on to big bore 2 strokes.

all the best cheers ..weed..

BUXO, you cannot go wrong with an FE550! I will add that the FE450 is an option to consider. If you ride very tight trails, rocky terrain, and slick root infested forest, the 450 can be the better mount. The 550 is more fun everywhere else (power=fun). I have the 450, and it is my dream bike. My best riding buddy has a new 550. It is interesting to see how I pick the nasty tight trails, and my buddy picks the more open terrain to ride. He would trade for a 450 on the nasty stuff, and I wish I had a 550 when the trails open up. Any newer Husaberg will not disappoint you.

Thanks to everybody for your information. I will probably go for the 650, but i will never sell the cr500, I like it so much. I will try to prepare it for supermotard.
Sparks: I´m from Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña.
Nice to meet you all!
Regards.
