Sound deadening for tank?

This is my first 'berg. It's broken right now, so I've got time to worry about some less important things. Tonight it's this: There's a tremendous amount of intake roar from under the tank. I've thought about trying to apply some sound deadening material to the underside of the tank. I've not thougt much more about it but now I've seen a photo of one of the BOSS oversize tanks with what appears to be a black mat stuck to the insides.

Anyone try this? What works? Or does it???

Thanks,
Dennis

My guess is that the material you saw was a heat shield, not for sound deadening.

I sympathize - my bike has a huge intake roar also. I am told they all do that.

I wear ear plugs and I can still very much hear it.

I am not going to do anything about it though. Anything I can think of either adds weight or dulls performance.

Wow, I think the intake roar is one of the things I love most about my Berg. I gas it everywhere just to hear it......

Yea, I don't really mind so much I suppose. I was quite surprised when I worked way too hard to repack the muffler and found it was plenty full! Duh.

Give me a few more rides and I'll be trying to vent the tank to hear more of it!!!

Let the ROAR sing proud !! I use the sound of my bike to jet it properly. Listen not only to the roar, but the 'whistle' every well tuned Husaberg has. I'm sure I'm not the only one ( soon find out !! ) that listens to that whistle when your about to grab a fistful lof Husaberg from whence the ROAR begins ?

Do your best to silence the ROAR. Many a man has tried, to no avail....it is ROAR... it is HUSABERG.

two reasons for the roar
1) the air filter is blocked by the oiling process. please only use spray on and use mildly
2) it's running lean and sucking for fuel

or its just more obvious as the intake is between your legs rather than inside an airbox tucked under your butt.

Where did you pull this s#@t from, its a large volume of rapidly moving air being pulled into the intake ducting making the noise. Are you honestly trying to say if you use a spray on filter oil sparingly and your jetting is right the intake will be silent? Bwahahahahahahaha!!!
You need to take your mad dog and get out of the mid-day sun, its cooked ya noodle.....

if you have a blocked air filter you'll get a larger induction noise. whether it's blocked one way or the other isn't the point. ask anyone who has ridden the desert/dunes/sands about their filter on the 2nd/3rd day of riding etc and they'll tell you the industion noise goes up significantly.

Well I wouldn't know about that. I clean my airfilter....... ;o)

I run a clean filter as well and figure on a multi day ride it's best to change it out at the end of each day (or more)...I bought extra filters which I load with oil then let sit for a few days...but if the noise is giving you the pox then get one of those i pod things...they're titis and can send deafening sound to your brain so you can't hear the bike...makes it a bit painful to know when to change gears though...but sounds very cool. It's like a crusty demons video live in your helmet...!

I've tried using the ipod whilst riding...cant hear myself scream $hit when I've overshot a corner so I know when to brake

Mind you, Suicidal Tendencies probably wasnt the best choice for music either....

I never could get used to riding with music. Earplugs yes, music no. I pay too much attention to music when it's on. I can't blame any crashes on it, but I can see it coming.

So, when the intake is loud I'll know it's time to clean my filter, eh? Check.

Funny thing, I used to ride Ducatis with gutted exhausts and open filter elements. You think I'd be used to disturbing so much peace by now!
