Hi,

I'm 82 Kilo without gear do you think a 76-250 spring would work on my bike.

I could have some second hand SXS forks, wich springs do you think i need in them,in the manuel they talk about 4.6 in the standart forks...

Are the SXS forks really better than revalved standart forks?

Thanks,Jeff

I would think the factory springs would be about right for your weight. I would give it a try just as it sits.

In the manual they wrote that a 76 -250 spring will be perfect for a 170-190 rider with gear and i'm 164 with out so i think that will be about 184 with gear, should be perfect,or not???

Must i also change the fork springs to 4.6 to get a perfect balance or could i try the standart one?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
You dont say where you ride or what sort of riding you do.
If you do H&H, enduro, woods then i would stick with the stock 72/44s for your weight, those springs should work well once dialled in.
Racing teams in UK are finding sags at 37/110 work well.
My sweet spot for fe570 on sags is 38/115 (less when standing which is probably 80% of time).
I have tried diff weights of spring front and rear and diff settings right thro season to get it right.
One turn of preload can make a huge difference on these bergs, rear is very heavy so balancing springs doesnt come into the equation. If you need to go up a spring, just do it, dont try and balance, wont work. As far as balance, lower rear, higher front works best. Also 2 turns out on HS comp works well for me.
For turning i have 5mm forks showing and the rear wheel right back. I tried the wheel forward and it made the bike very nervous and flighty. Went back 15mm, it is very settled and still turns well.
All down to the clickers then, one or two clicks of rebound either way also makes a huge difference. Bit of a minefield but when you hit the sweetspot , its all worth it.

Good luck,

Nick

Hi Nick,

I do only Enduro's like H&H,3 or 4 hour races, extreme enduros like Red Bull Romaniacs and so on...

For me the front end isn't really confident at higher speed and on harder ground,so i don't think to lower the rear is the right way for me...

I would find out sags this evening and post them here.

Thanks,
Jeff

Set the sag, set the clickers per the manual and give it 10 hours of break in. Then see where how it feels and go from there.

The bike has done 25 hours, the clickers are "sport" on the shock and "standart" on the forks.

Romaniacs, nice one!
The rear is pretty good when setup . its the front that takes some dialling in.
As you do extreme enduro why not put the sxs forks in and try them, they are the better forks and you could revalve if you need.

IMHO, put two more turns of pre load on the shock spring and check it. It should net you about 33mm of static-if not adjust accordingly. Put all of your gear on, half tank of fuel and check the rider sag sitting where you normally do. This should net you around 95mm of rider sag.

As Berger suggested, set the clickers to standard and go ride it and see how you like it.

Which should be right on with some gear on, equates to about 37/110, sweet for H&H and romaniacs.
Try it and see, if you cant get anywhere with the front end on clicker adjusts then you may need to try 46s on front and if the preload is already wound up high on the rear then change that to 7.6 and minimise preload.
You need to decide what weight you are as you lost over 16lbs in less than a day from your first post. Bung a rear tyre over your shoulder to allow for some gear.

Cheers,
Nick
