Background: I'm considering buying a 2011 FE390. The bike is absolutely mint condition, I cannot find a stone chip or any trace of dirt/dust anywhere. I would argue that it has seen no dirt in it's entire life. It genuinely looks barely ridden.... Heart says yes, head says no.

The puzzle: The Berg is 81hr and 4676km. That's an average of 57.72kph or 35mph. How is that possible? Keep in mind that is supposed to be an average speed across it's entire life. I wouldn't average that speed on my Ducati 900 super sport riding around town and highway (yes, I know I ride like grandpa).

Theories, lets hear them
 
If it’s to good to true then it’s not good. That being said I look at all the chain guides for wear same for brakes pads to see how used it is. plastic is easy to replace so bike would look good. the 390 are the best off road of 70* motors in tight stuff for Me......

If the metal parts look untouched, then it kind of has to be legit. In that case, I'd guess a speedometer/odometer malfunction was the likeliest cause. I as a computer scientist can't really imagine how you'd stop the hours from counting or how you'd reset them in the ECU while continuing to rack up metered distance. Even so, 5000km is not much for these bikes at all.

The plastics are replaceable, but if these bikes are ridden the metal parts will have marks and wear and tear. Engine covers, bottom of frame, pegs, etc., as well as the brakes/drivetrain. If the entire bike looks good, then it probably is good.

These motors are incidentally very stout. If it starts well and runs well then I'd go for it. The 390 motor is based on the KTM EXC 530 motor only with a smaller bore, shorter stroke, less compression, a bigger single-chamber oil compartment, and a fuel injection system (more sealed than a carburated system), all of which contribute substantially to reliability.
 
Ride it and compare the speedo accuracy with a gps. Could be programmed for Supermoto which would lessen the miles, but not hours.
 
I took the bike for a another test ride and checks fine. I ended up buying it (I can be indecisive), I was told it was a 2011 but when arrived home I checked the log books and dealership paperwork. Its a 2012 with a complete service history from the dealership. 100% complete service record. Wow! The bike is in stellar condition. It has never seen dirt I swear, and doubt ridden hard. I'm almost too scared to take it offroad. Almost ;)

People quite often go by the manufacture date to determine model when in actual fact the majority of bikes are built the prior year, ie the 2012models were built in 2011.

The mileage against hours and lack of dirt insinuates road riding.
 
My neighbour has a 2012 ktm 500. It is built in 2011 (obviously) but on paper it's a 2017 as that was the year it was put on road...

Your 390 can be -10, -11 or -12

-10: gray fuel tank
-11: white more translucent fuel tank
-12: yellow frame
